Re: Raspberry Pi handheld VN console build.
I'll be following this project with interest. I'm hoping to demo my VN on a bartop arcade unit, which runs Raspberry Pi, and hoping this crazy idea will work. Thanks for doing the legwork and researching the possibility of portable VNs on unusual hardware!

The Invincible Protagonist
Here's a writing conundrum I've been pondering lately. Maybe you can relate, maybe you've got some tips. Let's find out. I've been giving thought to the invincibility of protagonists lately, and how that affects the way players metagame their way through a narrative experience. When you know you can...

Re: pre-orders of games?
I can say that I preordered VA-1 HALL-A through itch.io well over a year and a half before it was finished, based on the strength of the playable demo they offered. (A demo which actually ended up being a standalone prologue rather than part of the finished game.) It showed promise in terms of atmos...

Re: Arcade Spirits [Comedy, Romance, Workplace]
What do expect the gameplay-to-story balance to be? In other words, how much time will the player spend reading, and how much time will they spend interacting through statistics and other gameplay elements? Currently we're using Telltale or Bioware as a model, where the flow of the scene is general...

Re: Scheduling question: Art first, writing first, or both?
It's sounding like I'm on the right track, then, to do like 75-85% of the writing now and use placeholders, THEN start looking for sprite, CG, and background work. ...and music work. Ugh. This is gonna cost a lotta money, but I'm willing to see it through. Thanks for the advice, everyone. I wasn't s...

Re: Scheduling question: Art first, writing first, or both?
My personal opinion is alike the rest though, you can probably get a sprite for the protagonist because they're bound to be in the story, but most of the art is best left for once the scene they'll appear in is written. I could see this -- core cast of characters first, then finish 75% of the writi...

Scheduling question: Art first, writing first, or both?
Hello there. First time VN developer here; I've done other indie games and mods in the past and have written a bunch of novels, but definitely my first VN. I've got the coding, UI, sound, and writing on lock by my lonesome -- and I have a writing partner to help me smooth things out on that front, t...

Re: Left and right side images, or multiple textbox.pngs
Interesting! I'll start with the alternating version, then see if I can figure out the more complex one.
Thanks so much!

Re: Left and right side images, or multiple textbox.pngs
Okay, I figured out the vertical shift issue -- I had the yalign on the overall text box wrong.
But still, what's the ideal way to do this left-and-right side image thing? I'm guessing my method of a custom textbox for the player is kinda not great.

Left and right side images, or multiple textbox.pngs
I'm trying to develop a GUI which allows for two character portrait side images -- the person you're talking to on the left, the player character on the right. I'm a complete newbie to Renpy (although I've done plenty of programming in various languages in the past, so I kinda got the basics) but I'...
