Re: What is done in the project development phase?
Each step in project development has different things, but you should keep these aspects in mind throughout the entire process so you're prepared: 1) Pre-Production: - Brainstorming - Concept art - Planning out your budget - Plot Outlining - Organising the production pipeline - Choosing the visual n...

Re: How to Raise Awareness For Your Game?
Mike Falzone made a nice inspirational video about raising awareness for your work.
It takes time to "build a fanbase" for your work.

Re: How to Make Your Characters Relevant to Your Story?
Ask yourself, "What is the story's Aesop/theme?" Then ask yourself, "How can I apply that Aesop/theme into my main character on a personal level?" For example, if the main message of the story is, "fortune favors the brave," you may have the character start out as cowar...

Re: Effective villain protagonists
One think I find interesting that I see in effective villains in general (not just villain protagonists) is that they've convinced themselves that they are the goodies, rather than the baddies. I think that's one of the reasons why I find Frollo such an interesting villain in Disney's The Hunchback ...

Re: Encorportating fantasy into a story that isn't a fantasy
I see no reason why you can't write a story about roommates who happen to be magic users in a mostly non-magic world. You don't need to tell an epic story to make use of fantastical elements. I agree. I mean, if you need a case study, I did it (in a different way) with Three Guys That Paint, and th...

Once you've finished the script, take a look at this post I wrote for a similar discussion. Once you've written the script, It'll be easier to ask yourself the right questions to brainstorm a title.

Re: How to write characters that people love in a short time
The advice I hear most often (and what's helped for me!) is similar to what gekiganwing said: Pay particular attention to the first thing a character does in the story. If your character is witty, have them say something witty in the first couple lines of dialogue. If the character's angry, have th...

Re: How to achieve good pacing?
A thing I keep in mind when I plot out a story is this rule: Every time you write an action-filled/suspenseful scene, follow it immediately with a slower, more conversation-focused scene. Both your characters and your audience need a rest between action scenes. As an example, you can observe this us...

Looking for Writing Partner for June-Aug Game Jam [closed]
Who I'm Looking For: I'm looking for a writer and/or idea bouncer as a collaborator for the game jam, 2015's A Game By Its Cover , a two-month-long game jam (June 19-August 16) where you are meant to create a game based on another's fake cover art (or, in my case, a fake trailer). The below image i...

Re: Naming your game!
Here are some ideas I can think of from other works: Character/Hero Title: The work is named after the hero (the focal character) or the protagonist (the eye of the story) Examples: Sherlock Holmes, Jane Eyre, Shrek, Kim Possible. Antagonist Title: Sometimes the antagonist is so memorable, you can n...

Writing Likeable Murderers?
How do you write a main character who commits a murder (murders a non-villain character) and still make them likeable? Thoughts? My current thoughts: - Motive: If the audience understands why the character committed the murder, and it's a motive we have empathy for, we'll be more willing to continue...

Re: What Would You Want in a Detective VN?
What about game mechanics? Are there any specific game mechanics you'd be interested in seeing in a VN where you play as a detective?

What Would You Want in a Detective VN?
What sort of things would you want in a detective/mystery visual novel? This can relate to anything: Specific game mechanics, art, design, character types, story, setting, etc. EDIT: I guess since "What makes a good mystery story?" is a bit too general, I guess we'll focus on game mechanic...
