Re: Question for people with completed games

I've said it before: there's no reason today why you can't go 1024x768. Personally I think you should go higher if possible, but most 2D engines aren't set up to enable that. Artists will draw high-resolution art anyway and then scale down to whatever resolution they need. With modern 2D engines thi...

Re: Improving the Community

LSF is big enough now where user-user drama is inevitable. There will always be besserweisser users who would rather argue their own points to death than meet in the middle or follow simple courtesy rules. This happens to every forum. If the forum breaks down on a regular basis because of user animo...

Re: Non-english visual novel engines?

@number473: Well so is Novelty. I am just curious of other engines that I may not yet have come across. @PyTom: I found some screenshots of Ren'ai maker and you're right, it does seem conceptually like Novelty, but constricted within an ugly framework of dialog boxes. I agree with you about the bene...

Non-english visual novel engines?

I feel like I have a fairly good grasp on the english visual novel engines. That's quite easy since there aren't that many of them: Ren'py and Novelty. (Blade engine doesn't count because I think it's rubbish ). But I know virtually nothing about what kind of engines the vn factories of the eas...

Re: The iSlate, or iPad...Er...the Apple Tablet thingy...

It's 500 dollars for the low-end version! I thought we were supposed to live in the middle of a recession. Who's going to be dumb enough to pay that kind of mone- oh yeah. Apple fans.

Re: The iSlate, or iPad...Er...the Apple Tablet thingy...

I not an Apple guy. I like my iPod but I probably wouldn't had bought it (it was a gift). The iPad naming seems like a mistake. I'm mostly curious how the industry will adopt it or if they will turn their backs on Apple this time. It's not like an iPhone where you can just carry it around in your po...

Re: Are IQ tests bullshit?

Question: Does SAT's come with multiple choice questions? I heard a lot of tests do that in the US. Those types of tests has always struck me as odd. The discrepancy in Bush's speeches could just as well come down to him reading off a script versus answering questions, something Bush was notoriously...

Re: Are IQ tests bullshit?

So, what you're saying is that we could test the tests on him! Anything that lets him score more than "monkey" is obviously a bad test. :P Pretty much. Even if you disregard the politics I don't think there's anyone who could argue that that man has above average intelligence. If he's abo...

Re: Are IQ tests bullshit?

I believe there are people with higher and lower intelligence, yes. Furthermore I believe it's genetic (i.e. you can't grow more intelligent than you already are) Whether or not an IQ test can properly distinguish the two comes down to the individual test. IQ tests is a loaded issue because many peo...

Re: Rhythm Games

I loved Hatsune Miku's game for the music and videos, but the game itself was a breeze. Had unlocked most of all costumes after a couple of days of playing. I'm not boasting. It's a really easy game compared to the rest of the genre. I've probably put 300+ hours into DJMax Portable 1, 2, Classiquai ...

Re: Game Resolution

The most common resolution is 800x600 pixels. But why is that still the case? It certainly isn't for compatibility reasons. If that was the case, games might as well be limited to 256 colors as well. The downside with 2D software rasterization is that scaling is slow and you generally have to pick ...

Re: Game Resolution

Isn't that doable using vector graphics? Sure, but you don't really need the infinite resolution that vector graphics offer to get sharp graphics. I was thinking along the lines of high-resolution images that are automatically scaled to whatever the player's resolution happens to be. I'm sort of bl...

Re: Game Resolution

I believe that the sooner we can stop making games in 800x600 and enable artists to make true HD art that scales to any resolution, the better.
