Re: Recruiting: expert on Conspiracies (Consultant)

Pity I'm trying to do five projects at once right now, as this sounds like it would be right up my alley if it didn't involve Skype. (Skype itself would fit nicely into a conspiracy-heavy cyberpunk story - you have software written by criminal hackers being sold for billions of dollars to a multinat...

Re: Where Should I Register My Domain Name?

I'm considering moving my domains to Dreamhost - spikycaterpillar.com's already there, and as far as I know they aren't selling used domains, which is good. The only real downside for me is that I'm uncomfortable getting hosting and registration from the same vendor. In my opinion, Dreamhost's UI is...

Re: Performance Warnings - how common?

In my experience, 3D acceleration on the Linux desktop is a buggy mess that is effectively unusable for a very large fraction of installed systems. My main devbox gives a performance warning in 6.13.8; I don't think I'd tried anything in 6.13.x on my previous devbox, but the version of Ren'Py I was ...

Re: What's a fair way to price games?

IMO, the big barrier to most customers isn't the exact price you charge, it's the difference between paying and not paying. Paying for something online requires a certain degree of work, a certain degree of trust on the customer's part, and a certain amount of complicated financial infrastructure wh...

Re: Magical Diary (Sim/RPG) [Commercial]

I just bought the game off of Steam yesterday and am really enjoying it so far~! But I'm having kind of a weird problem with it. If I minimize the game while it is running (or if I put another window in front of it), the game's screen goes all black. The music still plays but I can't see anything. ...

Re: New, and need a little help.

If the code looks the same in your text editor as it does on the forum, the problem is that you aren't indenting after your ifs. Things like: if T_points > Nuetral_points: "I make my way back to my room, and I hear something behind me, it was from the room across the hall from my room..." ...

Re: Favorite Collaboration Tools?

I use a private moo (wrapped in an SSL tunnel) for communication and SFTP/SSH for file transfer. They're both open protocols, so we've got free choice of clients, and we run our own servers, so we don't have to worry about any third parties staying both in business and trustworthy. Once a project is...

Re: Tutorial isn't working (issue #2) Power PC related.

You need to force software rendering. Holding down shift while the game is starting should bring up a screen that lets you choose what renderer to use (though I think some Macs may have trouble with that - but it worked on at least one of my test machines, which are both Tiger-based PPCs that don't ...

Re: Animated .gifs

ATL is a lot more powerful than gif animations are - gifs don't support translucency, rotation, scaling, smooth movement, or having more than 256 colours per frame.

I suspect it would be more worthwhile to write a tool to convert gif animations into ATL than to try to add gif animations to Ren'Py.

Re: Share your attitude/characterisitic :)

PersonalDNA, (with surprising accuracy), has me as a Reserved Creator. Also they really need a 'poser' bar, because technically my avoidance of branded/advertised attire counts as being influenced by advertising. @Anna - is PersonalDNA actually using *this* list? The INTJ forum thread suggests that ...

Re: Danger lurks for every Megaupload users, PLEASE READ!

Okay, chill. This video is bullshit. 99.9 percent of it. First of all, the part about "anyone who's ever downloaded anything copyrighted from MU is now screwed". WRONG. MU doesn't store IP information about everyone who downloads... at least not for more than a couple of days. Why should ...

Re: Stop SOPA - USA members, please read

What I mean is that SOPA is being discussed for months now. Where were Gingrich, Romney and Paul before Internet Blackout day? If they were so strongly against it, why haven't they made it an issue before? Obama did. Paul was against it as early as November. (Unsurprisingly - he's got a very good f...

Re: Megaupload down?

The problem's not so much the accounts as the files - it's not practical to stop a warezd00d from creating three dozen accounts, but it's technically trivial to take a SHA1 or MD5 hash of a file and block that file from being reuploaded regardless of the account used. Which is why they put them in ...

Re: Megaupload down?

Yes but all of this can be solved by simply asking for an ID for uploaders, which is NOT public, but megaupload knows it, so they can simply ban the user from accessing the site in future if they catch him/her uploading illegal stuff. Otherwise, is a bit pointless saying they remove illegal content...

Re: additive blending

Date Warp and Magical Diary have software additive blending hacked in. (Magical Diary also has GL additive blending; Date Warp doesn't, since it was too far along in development by the time 6.11 came out for migrating to be a good idea.) This is one of those things that's waiting for the death of th...
