Re: Alta, Texas - Bx5G - Updated - JS and RenPy versions

Latest update: Talked with someone from MS (thanks again Jake), and the main problem was that I had a screen at the end that showed which Paths you had completed. Since I consider complete that you have done both the good and the bad end, the first time you play through it would be empty. I "th...

Re: Possible to adjust artwork for various resolutions?

OK, then 1366 x 768 it is then. Am just getting ready to start reworking the images, so glad I asked first!

Re: Possible to adjust artwork for various resolutions?

Honestly for my games I support only one resolution, in 16:9 aspect ratio. In that case, what happens if someone brings it up on a much smaller resolution? I'm game (heh) to do everything at the 1366 option and let things downscale, but once upon a time that used to result in black bars or even occ...

Re: Possible to adjust artwork for various resolutions?

So what y'all are suggesting is build images for each of the "supported" resolutions - according to statcounter those should be 1366 x 768, 1280 x 800, and 1024 x 768 - ask the user to pick one, and then restart the game. So far I think I have a picture in mind of how I would do that. Woul...

Re: Alta, Texas - Bx5G - Slice of Life - Javascript

I tweeted about your blog and someone reached me: https://twitter.com/jessefreeman/status/284306005779693568 try contacting him :) I probably will, but I'm tempted not to. If the Windows Store way of doing things is going to be "we generally don't let things we don't understand in unless you m...

Re: Alta, Texas - Bx5G - Slice of Life - Javascript

But also a lesson, better use cross-platform languages if you attempt to go in those "obscure places"... if you used Monkeycoder for example, you could have published the game instantly for other, more open, platforms  I know, I know. I'm sure someone who had the time and...

Re: Alta, Texas - Bx5G - Slice of Life - Javascript

Turns out the joke is on me. You can read the full story here , but in a nutshell, Microsoft doesn't understand Visual Novels, and so failed my app for being "incomplete" after playing through one route. Um... I don't even know where to begin with that... In any case, I should be able to V...

Re: Alta, Texas - Bx5G - Slice of Life - Javascript

I don't doubt he had some points, but I also note that for some reason his app (which I have paid for on Android) is marked to only be playable on Win 8 RT. At the moment that isn't where the lion's share of Win 8 licenses are. I would be very interested to hear from him (or anyone else) what they s...

Re: Character Sprites

If the coders use compositing, it's not so bad. I presume by this you mean that you have a "blank" pose that you then just throw the new face on? Or at least that's how I've done before. As long as the head doesn't move too much this goes pretty quick - particularly since you can then jus...

Re: Ménage à trois games

One way I've seen this dealt with (and I am guilty of doing the same in one of my games) is the "twin" angle. IOW, they are used to doing everything together, and you are going to be with both or neither. Also part of the dynamic in the Anime "Futakoi Alternative". Of course the ...

Re: Alta, Texas - Bx5G - Slice of Life - Javascript

Not saying Big Switch is desirable, but at some point it comes down to whether I want to write a Visual Novel, or write a tool for creating Visual Novels. We will see if it does well enough for me to even create a second one, in which case taking the longer view will be worth the investment I suspec...

Re: Alta, Texas - Bx5G - Slice of Life - Javascript

Did you write the JavaScript from scratch or use a library? Combination of both. Started with the CreateJS series, and then had to work out my own procedures for writing and reading files, as well as the case statements to allow me to jump to any particular spot you might have saved at. Main differ...

Re: Alta, Texas - Bx5G - Slice of Life - Javascript

Looks like I probably will end up needing the weekend as my middle daughter's nurse didn't show up last night, and so not quite as much progress as I had hoped. Did finish up all of Carla's path and most of Julie's, but still have a bit of Julie's to do, and then the second halves of Becky and Annet...
