Re: Forming a Writer's Guild

Yeah, if it was constructive criticism, I wouldn't mind. But comments along the lines of: "It's been done before." And: "You're doing it wrong." Don't solve anything. And don't get us anywhere. No one asked you to do these things for them, so you can't automatically expect grati...

Re: Need Male Staff! for Escaping Illusion: The wanted Princ

I get it this is some sort of meta commentary since they want a prince . Like everyone else said you don't need a dude to get this project moving, rather than assemble a large team, how about doing a smaller (not commercial) project or giving a more informative pitch? There's very little information...

Re: What will you do if you were in my shoes?

Families have different traditions and expectations so I'm not sure what's expected of you, but it could be productive to think of what you mean by a joke. (This also has possible application in nonfamily settings) Take your time with talking and try to think about what you want to convey. In regard...

Re: NSFW Content and Kickstarter

(I only skimmed the comments so forgive me if this is addressed) I think the reason for the "strict" enforcement of tier rewards is to ensure that people don't "mule" things. Not saying that was the intent of the project btw. KS is probably trying to ensure that "unrelated&q...

Re: Dealing with destructive criticism (aspiring VN creator)

As someone who has been called "too critical" I will say that the anons' "basic idea" weren't terribly far off the mark, the dialogue is not the best and the art has some big, but relatively easy fixes to make. That being said, there is ALMOST no such thing as bad feedback, and i...

Re: Rules on the Visual Novel as a Medium

I just thought of something else: If one were to want to motivate the player to check out all possible ends, how would you do it? Include a CG gallery with unlockable CG's? A trophy gallery? Achievements? What purpose do you believe each end should serve apart from motivating players to "catch...

Re: Rules on the Visual Novel as a Medium

I am not reading that horrible mess that is somehow a single paragraph since you apparently didn't heed what I said about those paragraphs. Once again you post has so many words but say very little, I get this is NaNo but seriously. If a creator thinks in terms of this, of 'winning' a novel, then th...

Re: Rules on the Visual Novel as a Medium

1. The Visual Novel is a content-oriented medium. 1.1. By content I refer to image, sound, textual rhythm and narrative. 1.2 This is opposed to a Visual Novel as a systems-based medium, based around win conditions and choice systems. 1.2.1. Wrong priorities lead to ‘gamification’ of the narrative, ...

Re: Rules on the Visual Novel as a Medium

@enigma and Caveat Lector Maybe I haven't played enough VNs or I got very lucky with the draws but most of the "bad ends" I came across seemed to be fairly stand-alone endings (then again they typically had lots of death or fates worse than death but eh, name of the end I guess). Though ty...

Re: Rules on the Visual Novel as a Medium

Trust me though that my tone is mild here compared to the direct intellectual assault that goes on in the University debating circuit where literally blood and brains rush out into full blown combat. Trust me too that passive-aggressive retorting is basically hardwired into my thought process after...

Re: How Do I Manage To Not Be Offensive In This Situation?

So I just don't believe that anyone who is an ableist is a very nice person. They can still be nice, but they have a dark side in their personality. That's kind of what I mean by mixing it up because not every person who has an -ism will be as neatly cut as being evil in other aspects of their life...

Re: How Do I Manage To Not Be Offensive In This Situation?

It's not so much of "offensive" but by the sounds of it these are a pretty neatly cut on who will likely be favored. Have you considered "mixing it up" a bit where it's not such a stark dichotomy? I bring this up (and forgive my ignorance on most of the context) but I've met some...

Re: Rules on the Visual Novel as a Medium

What is the purpose of this topic? As with the point of any discussion on Aesthetics, to try to see what the goals, limits and potentials of a medium or art form really is and should be. I seem to have hit your bad spot or something because it seems that this topic is just made to question the arti...

Re: Main Character Race And My Race Issues!

I don't know the details or in-story significance of your MC being the race he is. While I can see why others may think you may be choosing a lighter skinned protag "because of reasons" you are the author so it is ultimately your call. Your writing and execution of the story will have to d...
