I prefer higher game resolutions for crisper text rendering.

In some sort of ideal VN world, the displayables would be hardware scaled from whatever resolution they were authored at to the nice, high resolution of my monitor, with the game text being rendered natively at that resolution.

Re: Ren'Py Documentation

Hmm... I think myself that it could benefit from the smaller sections of the reference manual all being on pages of their own, rather than subheadings within a larger document - like that they can be supplemented relatively easily and cleanly with extra examples and links to other, relevant article...

Ren'Py Documentation

I've setup a test version of a Ren'Py dokuwiki, accessible here . There are a lot of forum things that could potentially go into it - resource links, faqs, examples and such - but I've just done a straight conversion of the beginning of the reference manual to begin with. If we do decide to use this...

I use and am pretty happy with Dokuwiki on my departmental documentation server at work. It's implemented in PHP, uses the filesystem for storage instead of a database, and has various plugins available for markup, including DocBook format - I can see how that would be useful for exporting contents ...

I was thinking this afternoon about what a good replacement for the Ren'Py reference would be like. I rather like wikis, but I also like having local copies of documentation. So in a fit of madness, I decided to convert the reference to a TiddlyWiki . It wasn't that hard, but did take quite a while ...

I quite liked it. The premise is pretty interesting, and seems to have a lot of space for story.

The script is slightly awkward in a few spots, but I thought the scifi elements were introduced in an understandable way, overall.

FWIW, I think a clear line should be drawn between planning for a 'features/teaching' demo, and a 'promotional' demo. When it comes to a promotional demo, I don't think throwing in every Ren'Py feature in a multifaceted song and dance extravaganza is really the way to go. Instead the focus should be...

I've played the Genyu Toshi demo now - my XP pc is setup for Japanese locale, so no font problem. The actual demo story and art are a pretty good teaser, but I kept thinking as I went through it, "I could tweak this phrase here and that there, and clean up this graphic and have it running in Re...

"If the number of arguments is odd, the animation will stop with the last image (well, actually delay for a year before looping). Otherwise, the animation will restart after the final delay time." So, your code should be: image attack = Animation ("a1.png",0.02,"a2.png"...

On my linux workstation, Kochi Gothic and Kochi Mincho are available.

Linux desktop standards being what they are, I have no idea how common it is to have those installed.

By default, the program tries to use the "MS Mincho" font. I guess that, not too surprisingly, this font isn't available by default on Linux. If you can give me a few font names for Linux that have support for Japanese characters, I can try to use those fonts when MS Mincho is unavailable...

First impression: Very nice. Works unlike the other memorization aid programs I have, which is good. Hanako is very cute. I don't want to disappoint her by getting an answer wrong. Rough points: It was a little disconcerting to see a grid full of 'not in font' character squares on the first start (r...
