(Escape from) The Temple to Nepenthe, Ludum Dare 21 entry
Making of here, at about 20X faster than reality and minus sleep cycles and burn-out and writer's block: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMQnel0_ka8
Statistics:
The game contains 663 screens of dialogue.
These screens contain a total of 5,999 words,
for an average of 9.0 words per screen.
The game contains 5 menus.
This game is rated PG! A little scary in parts, but appropriate for nearly all ages above 7 or 8.
It's not everything that I wanted it to be, but it's self-contained and complete enough to try to enter the Ludum Dare competition. I have no illusions about it competing toe to toe with other games, given some technicalities and also the lack of gameplay, but I'd like to try anyway.
It's a game about an alien anthropologist and her pilot exploring an abandoned planet with many legends and mysteries surrounding it, and strange architecture.
Can you get all 5 endings?
This game probably has a ton of bugs, so if you find any, please let me know. I obviously made this in a hurry. I also mirrored the download on my domain at
http://www.buttercupsaiyan.org/The%20Te ... he-all.zip
and
http://www.mediafire.com/?5h7vveamo5m7566
I'll have the timelapse up a little later.

I was at the water rising part and Pell says he's working on it, then it goes straight to the Main Menu.
Impressive work for 48 hours.

Oops. Do you have the Ren'Py traceback? There are multiple ways to hit that part, and I need to know which variable or typo I goofed on.SusanTheCat wrote:I was at the water rising part and Pell says he's working on it, then it goes straight to the Main Menu.

There was no error. It just went straight to the main menu with no "Bad End" or anything.
It happened twice:
Once with the blue right ball, once with the yellow top ball
[Edit]
-explored the interior
-not fit to command
-said No to exploring the artifact
-right blue ball
the screen shot is within a few lines of when it happens.

Thank you, let me squish this bug tonight.
I think I got it! Failed to code in a I'll make new builds by tomorrow.
There is a fairly low-tech solution, since I left the source code unarchived. Open up the game folder, find "script.rpy", go to the very bottom of the script and just type in return then save it as "script.rpy". It just ended up being the very last line and that particular nasty error is why I prefer "jump" over "call."

Thought it was something like that.
I had to be very careful with my game. It had calls all over the place because I built an event manager. :S
The more I play, the more I am impressed with all the work that went into this.

I played it a few weeks ago. And here's what I think (though don't worry, I'm nobody to judge)
I think it quite good, how the flow went, I was able to get a good ending in the first gameplay. Then tried to spoil myself and got the bad ending for the second. I wasn't able to get the other three endings, but perhaps it was because I'm just too lazy. Those the bulb thing effect it?
The art was good! I was very impressed by how the surrounding looks like. I'm quite shocked when the the butterfly alien suddenly pop up, but it really got my attention.
I can't help you much with the music because I'm always on mute, sorry.
Anyway, all I can say is that it's good. I followed the adventure and understand the story, though I didn't at first.
Also again, I'll say, I'm really impressed by the arts for this game! The art was good! I was very impressed by how the surrounding looks like. I'm quite shocked when the the butterfly alien suddenly pop up, but it really got my attention.
