We'll be making appropriate version for each country.

If you're willing to translate the game in your own language, message us.

I see. Actually I have some American friends who loves these stuff and I think it's cool.
But we're allowing 3rd party to make ad-don and Mods for the game.
I want them to feel safe and guarantee their rights of expression.

I don't think that making regional restricted versions is a good idea. That whole "religion and sensibilities" excuse is a nonsense. You are basically saying that you want to play a parent to your players. To your information many Japanese eroge were translated into English with loli hentai content (for example 恋姫†無双～ドキッ☆乙女だらけの三国志演義～, ジュエルナイトクルセイダーズ and many others). I think the best idea would be to create two versions (with H content and without). This way everyone will be able to download the version they want.

As for the translation of the game into English, I think that you should get a native English speaker. Just saying, as your post contains some very awkward and erronous (brooming flowers) English.

Could you write down the reason you think it's nonsense?

I already know a lot of games are translated on English unofficially.
I also know some British kid downloaded English "Rapelay" on P2P and our industry had huge international problem with your government and British Feminism party (that made some of our content banned).

Oh, but I was talking about those games being translated officially. Just go to MangaGamer or Jast USA. H content is legal in Western world and loli H content is only illegal in Canada and Britain (it's still legal in USA). Yes, "Rapelay" incident was unfortunate and got lots of bad press, but it was because of it being a rape simulator, not because it was a sex game or had a loli character.

As for a "religion and sensibilities" excuse... Well, as I already stated, I feel that the developer then tries too hard to play my parent with this excuse. An age check for an adult content should be all that is needed. Minori thrown the same argument around when they tried to kill an ongoing fan-translation of their works, but then made a heel face turn and decided to release "ef - a fairy tale of the two" officially and uncensored.

My impression was that the problem with Rapelay - at least in the US - was not so much that it was available, but that it was available at amazon.com. Amazon generally portrays itself as a family-friendly site, even though it's not, when considered as a whole. There are a lot of erotic books, intimate products, etc.

If you sell it from a website with proper disclaimers, then you're fine - especially if you kinda dance around the ages of characters.

There's the secondary issue of the wide availability of porn hurting the image of Japan as a nation - but it's the wide availability of porn in Japan that does that, since people know about that even with websites blocking foreign IP addresses. (And I honestly think it isn't as big a deal as people think - people aren't boycotting Japan in any way that I know of.)

Personally, I feel nanashi is being respectful towards the U.S. by doing their best to avoid releasing content that may upset U.S. citizens or cause an undue uproar over the Visual Novel ─ decrying it as trying to parent the readers feels like a stretch and exaggerated. I would not dream to release a boy x boy game in Middle Eastern countries, although I would want to remove any boy x boy traces and then release the story if I felt the romance could reasonably be taken away and provide an enjoyable story. This is not an act of parenting; this is an act of avoiding controversial material and garnering an unwanted reputation for your company, people and country.

What nanashi therefore seems to say, as far as I can judge, is that the H scenes are not the main focus of 'Hanako', and that you can enjoy the story even without seeing young girls engage in sexual activity. To demand nanashi releases a product they are uncomfortable with seems unreasonable and disrespectful to me. Especially given nanashi's group doesn't appear to be any bit disrespectful in wanting to censor the sexual content from their VN for western release. I do recall there were some people who went on to attack the company behind Rapelay and the people of Japan. Not wanting that stir again is nothing bad.


As a question about the VN: this is incomplete, yes? I seem to gather that you want to sell the end product. What price range do you expect the story to fall into? i.e. how much can we reasonably expect to pay for this VN? What are your feelings on someone making a MOD that inserts the H content into a possible US release of 'Hanako'?

Well, thinking that people in the west will compare all games with H-content to Rapelay is kind of ridiculous. As a hentai fan myself even I'm freaked out by rapelay, it sounds more like a torture game than an erotic game. The thing that's most scary about it is the semi-realistic 3D graphics that are supposed to simulate real girls. (not to mention the morbid endings to the game, sheesh)
2D non-realistic characters aren't so bad because they're often in a fantasy world and not supposed to be like real people.

I brought it up originally because I don't the content to be cut just over a small percentage of people who will most likely never know this game exists. There is a lot more nasty stuff out there that is made by western people that never becomes a controversy.

But did you know, either it's 2D or 3D, 15% of H games are in this category?

We actually lost 15% of our content after the incident.
"Follow the international standard" this is what I think the best for both of us.

I don't think the company, Illusion was officially publishing their game there.

For your question, yes, it's incomplete.
We'll have 6 chapters in all, and this version only has the first chapter.

I'm thinking 20$ for commercial one and 3$ for paid download content.
I'd happy to see if people made H mod for US release.
All I want is a superficial fact that "We're not selling adult content in US" so we have excuse to protect ourself when problem happens.
