Young Earth Road Trip (version 2.0, 02/11)

Miguel is excited to learn about the new creationist museum, but is devastated to learn that local bus system doesn’t travel there due to lack of demand. He decides to convert his neighbors so they can pilgrimage to the museum together. This game was made during the Ludum Dare 24 solo competition (theme: evolution). The only change in the post-compo version is the addition "real" music at the end of the game. Visit Lucky Special for the compo version. I had a lot of fun making this one.

Well I got the bad ending on my first try! Just can't figure out how to solve that pesky conspiracy theorist's riddles. Art is quite basic but I like the story and it's original and funny so well done! :)

Edit: Yay I recruited everyone! I liked how what they saw in the museum (without giving anything away) was appropriate for each character.

I grew up around quite a few dedicated evangelicals, some of whom were my age. And I've read several books which advocate intelligent design. But I consider myself part of Team Switzerland in regard to this issue, and as such, I'm not going to argue for or against it. Especially since I don't know much about science.

Thank you! And yes, just two endings.

I do wish I could have come up with something funny for the atheist's ending.

My goal was to create a fun game in 48 hours. Try it, and let me know if I succeeded.

It would be pretty awesome to some kind of special ending per character.
Like, if the protagonist fails to recruit everyone else but that character, then the protagonist is devastated, but the other character has some crazy idea.

The voting results are in. Tied third in the Humor category and tied #36 in Fun. I'm not sure how the voting is calculated, or what average number of votes is, but YERT got a little over 50 votes.

Interesting game. I laughed at quite a few parts.
But that cat lady is scary
I know the game was made quickly, but...
I was a bit puzzled that I could save a game but not load one.
I also encountered an uncaught exception when I tried to go to the Main Menu from the neighborhood screen.

Code: Select all

I'm sorry, but an uncaught exception occurred.

While running game code:

Thanks for reminding me of that. One of the LD voters had the same problem. I removed the quick menu but didn't actually disable the save/load screens. I need to do that.

We've released version 2.0, which includes a soundtrack by Li'l Magic, re-enabled save/load, customized menus, and a lot of minor improvements. I decided not to change the difficulty of the kitten game, however, so you'll still have to be quick on that one.

Download here.

If the game's controversial lack of a save feature kept you from playing it before, you're in luck!
