I just got to the infinite hallway, trying to figure out the 3x3 canvas.
Not sure what to do with those triangles from books...
Amazing game so far! The visuals and sounds really set up the right mood, and the puzzles are quite enjoyable.

A couple of them could have been better though.
* Generators and Valves: Some pics (fetus and tasting blood) could have been interpreted as both right and left, so I had to resort to guessing for them.
* Chess Poem: For "Black hearts... A sign" there are two squares that can fit the description, depending on how you interpret "midst."

Actually, you use both the left and right bookcases to solve the painting puzzle:
The bookcase on the left tells you which squares to click first for the sketching (note the number of books per square). The books in the bookcase on the right tell you which squares to click after the first stage is done. You're supposed to find the book with the card in it. That one depicts your starting point (the position of the red books is your starting point, then green, then blue). From that point on, it's a matter of trial-and-error. As the hint guide suggests, try drawing out a 3x3 grid and draw out the potential patterns.
Re: Suggestions
So my friend didn't really have much to suggest, apart from "make the puzzles easier".

Oh god that was pretty clever. I can't believe I didn't get this earlier.
Caveat Lector's hint is somewhat wrong. The colors of books have nothing to do with the solution. You just need to draw all the triangles on the same grid, and the answer just appears. I spent way too long trying to make sense of the book colors.

Hey, aqua.soo, could you explain that a little more? I managed to finish that part, but never figured out how the
dots in the books relate to the order you click on squares
, even after I had the answer. I tried
drawing them, but couldn't see a pattern...
It's been driving me to madness... ;-)

Haha, the three doors "puzzle" was a real troll move. After being completely stumped, I had to check the script files for the nasty surprise.
Going through the same door 70+ times, reeeaallyyy...
Then, there was the typewriter. Once again, I had to resort to reading the script to find that the puzzle is actually incorrect.
The letters that are circled are always from TOUCHES, even when not all 7 letters from that word are found in your Rorschach answers. This happens because you forgot to break out of the anagram-generating loop after finding a valid solution. To be more specific, soldict always has indices for TOUCHES, which isn't always the valid solution.
qirien,
The canvas is 3x3; the books show a 3x3 grid of dots. Draw the triangles together on the same 3x3 grid, and you'll see the path that you need to take.

I think it's something to do with the website's server being down? Unless someone who's a better web tech than I knows how to fix it?

Hi all,

I worked on art for this game way back when...! Haven't been in touch with Greeny for a long time unfortunately. I never beat this game myself but I went digging through my files and found that I still have a copy of version 1.4 (I'm not sure if this is the most updated version of the game or not  ). I've decided to mirror it on google drive, so The Madness 1.4 is available for download again here (win/mac/linux):

Have fun, folks!

Thank you very much, Reikun! :D If anyone's interested, I can also upload the WinZip for The Loop as well (spiritual predecessor to The Madness). Currently, I have a zip for both games.
