My First Ren'Py Game - Hopeful Night

#1 Post by Ina » Fri May 09, 2014 2:11 am

A boy frustrated with life and hoping to end it finds an unexpected inspiration and some choices.
You play as the boy and his fate is all in your hands. :?:
Will he live to find a better world?
Or will he die anyway?
A short visual novel with three endings and three choices.
This is my first ren'py game. Please review :D
PS. If the game has an error, try moving the .ttf file into the game folder as pointed out by Asceai.

EDIT: Wow, people, 200 downloads for a newbie? *bows and hands out virtual cookies*
BTW, the awesome Dizzydude has made the icon of this game, I just need some time to get it into the game. Sorry for it, but you all will have to wait for a while :D

EDIT: OMG, 1000?! Seriously? Thank you all *hugs*

Done, done! Finally :) Thanks to all you patient people! Btw, Azure_Flute(I found out later) is the original creator of the textbox I edited :D, so I credit them here.

No, the art was the courtesy of skimlines and chocobikies for the Boy and Girl sprites respectively.
The credits page lists all the other sources.
Script and coding has been done by me.
Did you enjoy the game? :D

To get the game to run, copy the file LadylikeBB.ttf into the 'game' directory.

I kinda liked it! Short but sweet and a neat little story.

Sorry, haven't played yet. I just saw the screenshots and thought you did all by yourself - so I was a little bit shocked. It's a lot of work for one person.
I will check it out when I've got a while and tell you want I think.

Ah thanks!~~

got it to work~ and i agree with Asceai - it was short and sweet - kinda like one of those oneshot manga's that gives u a melancholy feeling. Well done on your first project~

Thank you for trying my game out and for such nice reviews. :)
I'm sorry, but the .ttf, when not in the game folder, seemed to be working for me. Thanks for the notice, and I'll add the warning.

I downloaded this a long time back, and now that I've finished it, I think the game is wonderful. It's hopeful and encouraging at the same time, the eerie atmosphere is maintained very well. Very good for your first visual novel.

Thanks for the review! :)
I thought that the story was better in a creepy atmosphere.

I like the atmosphere of the game :) The mood is pretty consisent, and you have a good story! I especially like the third person narration-- I dont see that often in visual novels.

I downloaded for windows but I couldn't get it working. Wonder why. Maybe I'd need to download it again.
