This topic is super old so I'm not going to reprint a whole game introduction here, I'm just editing the top to let people know that this game is now available for free/donations on itch.io

https://hanakogames.itch.io/fatal-hearts

It is not a RenPy game, it was made in Game Maker long, long ago, and as such is only designed for Windows computers and not guaranteed to work for everyone. It does still run for me on this machine though.

It is a hybrid VN/adventure game, so yes, there are puzzles, they can be tricky. Hints on how to solve them, or cheat codes to bypass them, can be found in the strategy guide. And yes, people can and will die in this game!

For a little more information about the game's history, I made a tumblr post about it earlier.
This is a soft launch - that is, I'm being fairly quiet about it so far. I'm mentioning it here, but I'm not turning on the marketing yet. If something goes terribly wrong - if the website doesn't work, the installer doesn't work, the demo won't download, anything like that - PLEASE let me know so I can iron out the bugs.

... Mm, squished crisped ironed bugs.

Oh, yeah. GAME!

not sure there's much of a hint I can give for that other than to look at the pattern on the gold bits... Look at the center one since you can't turn that one, so everything has to match up with that. Turn the smallest ring until it looks like it's part of the same pattern? Then the next one out from that?

thanks that was the fastest customer response time ever. Thank you! So by gold bits do you mean on the edge of the book? Or the chunks of gold in the puzzle? Sorry for the multiple questions. I just can''t seem to get this puzzle but i will get it!

Book/rings puzzle:
IIRC I actually got this one more by looking at the outer ring than the inner one. I noticed that the patterning was symmetrical in one direction, but not in the other - looking more closely the patterns on all the other rings are symmetrical as well... so that axis of symmetry has to line up.
Personally, I had the most trouble with the park; probably 'cause I was expecting it to work like that old minotaur-maze thing, where the aggressor constantly moves towards the player in one axis, then the other, and the objective is to get them trapped behind something. It took me too many goes, frankly, to work out that the police[woman?] was behaving remotely sensibly...

Anyway, I know I said I probably wouldn't be interested, but I changed my mind. ;-)

Imagine that the rings have a round bump to them - and that they're reflecting something with circular patterns on. You need to rotate the rings around so that the reflected patterns match up; IIRC the single large loop reflection on the smallest ring you can move goes down, from then on you should be able to match up the smaller, brighter circles all the way around. Remember that each ring, when it's in its correct position, will be symmetrical along the vertical axis - so the left half will look like the mirror of the right half... so if you get stuck, remember that and just try all the possible combinations, I think (can't remember offhand whether there are three or four movable rings) there's only eight combinations if you just try each ring both ways up.

will you ever offer an option were someone can skip a puzzle or activity if it is too hard?

There is a secret code that will allow you to skip a puzzle, yes. So if you really really can't bear being stuck, you can contact me privately to get a jump code for a particular puzzle.

But that's the trick - it's a different code for every puzzle. :) So skipping one doesn't give you an easy out for the rest of the game. You'd have to ask at every single puzzle if you wanted to skip them all.

However, once you've passed a puzzle, you can skip it on subsequent plays.

oh thats interesting. I llike it that you can skip it after you solve it. Because its interesting to take down a puzzle! But if i had to do certain puzzles every time i wanted to repeat the game i would destroy my computer.

genius idea!

Wow...I wish I could type up a full review right now, but I don't have time, so I'm just going to ask some questions.
Okay, so I got 4 endings so far, all at the Chapter when you go to Sebastien's house and get your blood sucked/suck his blood/give said sucked blood etc. So I suppose I got an ending with Jeremy and with Sebastien. However, I want to know if there's a more "romantic" ending, because both of the endings were a little "ewww" not "awww". I especially want to know if there's a happy ending with Jeremy, because I think that Christina and he are really cute together.
I love the fact you can skip puzzles you've already done. And the storyline is really intriguing too.
I didn't even MEET Elizabeth in the path I went down. @_@ Gotta play again!
