Angel In The Dark - Audio/text based [Horror]*Vote On Steam*

Vote for the game on Steam Greenlight: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f ... =774234115
Just in time for Halloween, I'd like to present my Audio/Text based horror game, Angel In The Dark.
EDIT: The game now has a trailer. Check it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Bhhc1g ... e=youtu.be

Angel In The Dark is a terrifying new audio & text-based narrative adventure, in which you can see exactly what your in game character can see - absolutely nothing at all!

Put on some headphones, dim the lights, and immerse yourself in the sounds of a mysterious cave you'll never get to see as you explore, searching for a way out of the darkness.

Something very strange is going on...

Last night, you fell asleep in your own bed. Now, you've woken up in a dark, empty cave, with no memory of how you got there. At least you're not alone - you're joined by a mysterious girl named Lucia, who also has no idea where you are. Your only chance of survival is to wander aimlessly in the darkness together, searching for an exit.

Will you find a way out of the cave, or will you fall victim to one of the traps littering your path?
Features:

- A short narrative that can be completed in under an hour
- Four unique endings
- Atmospheric, original sound design
- An original soundtrack
- Absolutely no visuals (aside from text, menus & logos, etc)

*** Warning: Contains some strong language ***

Re: Angel In The Dark - Audio/text based [Horror] [HALLOWEEN

Having just released Angel In The Dark, one thing that's dawned on me is that the minimalist art style of my game probably isn't going to be great for pulling in players. Narrative driven games (actually, every game genre under the sun) generally rely on their visuals to attract an audience.

As this is a largely audio based experience, I think the trailer really puts across what the game is about much more than words or screenshots ever could. Anyway, I hope this won't be seen as "bumping" the thread. Just want to make sure people get the chance to see the trailer, rather than just writing it off based on the visuals.

Hope you find time to take a look, please, let me know what you think! :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Bhhc1g ... e=youtu.be

I like the idea that you've used - that the player can't see because the main character can't see. c: It adds another layer of immersion to the game.

Unfortunately, I'm going to have to steer clear of this on because I can't handle horror, especially audio-based horror. cx I hope that someone else plays and enjoys your game, though!

The writing is really good. But i didn't like how there is
no diversity in the endings. Sure, there was 4 different creative ways to die, but they all carried the same message: nice guy gets killed by evil girl. The end . I don't necessary need a happy ending, but maybe a they both die ending? I don't know
But regardless, this is a really polished work! I loved how you manipulated sound and the no image aspect to create atmosphere. I'd love to see what you would come up with next =v=.

Thanks Amiralo, I'm really pleased you enjoyed the game.
I was aware when I was writing the story that the lack of diversity in the endings would frustrate some people. That was actually the idea. Once the player has reached one ending, I wanted them to feel compelled to try all of the alternate pathways, in the hopes of reaching a happy (or at the very least, less miserable) ending. Of course, there isn't one, but I think that sense of disappointment is what makes the game interesting.
Then again, I'm an odd kind of gamer. I like it when games subvert my expectations, even if it frustrates the hell out of me.

Anyway, thanks again for playing, and thank you for your feedback. I really hope you'll take the time to share the game with your friends, or share it on twitter etc. I really want to get as many people playing AITD as possible :)

Just a quick update: The game is now available to vote for on Steam Greenlight. If you've got a spare minute, please take a look at the page, and if you like what you see, give the game a yes vote. It'd be so awesome if I could get my game onto Steam!

Another update (Although I'm pretty sure I'm just talking to myself at this point)

First, the game was featured in Rock Paper Shotgun's Best Free Games list! https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2016/1 ... s-october/

Also, the soundtrack to Angel In The Dark is now available to download via my bandcamp page, or on itch.io itself: https://paldous.itch.io/angel-in-the-dark-soundtrack

https://philipaldous.bandcamp.com/album ... n-the-dark

Seeing as it's Halloween, if you're looking for something to do today, and fancy playing an interactive horror audio/text based game, feel free to give the game a shot! It only takes an hour!

https://paldous.itch.io/angel-in-the-dark

The game is still struggling away on Steam Greenlight by the way, so if you could spare 5 seconds to give me a vote, I'd really appreciate it! http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f ... =774234115
