Here it is! Our fun little Nanoreno project. The script could've used some polishing and some of the GUI needs work, but we're still really glad we were able to put all this together a month. We hope you'll give it a shot.

I'll add a guide later on.

In this magical, wonderful, and ridiculous world, all marriages are considered valid, including ones where one party was forced into it. For some reason.

Because of this quirk in the law, kidnapping important people and making them marry you is a common occurrence. So much so that a special bureau was created specifically to help couples formed under such circumstances get through the paperwork needed to officially divorce. You work there!

And you just can't seem to get your nose out of everyone's business. You've seen enough villains and victims come through this office to know that there is often more to the story than what's on the surface. You believe in your heart of hearts that some of these odd couples could definitely end on better terms if they simply communicated better. That is your daily quest, and today is no different. You've got three pairs scheduled to come in, and you intend to help them work through more than just an obnoxiously large amount of paperwork.

MMDB includes three different villains and three different victims. The three villain/victim pairings that come into your office are randomly determined at the start of the game. Each of the nine possible pairings has it's own unique story and dynamic. All together the script contains a bit more than 18,000 words.

From left to right...
JESKA // Jeksa is an elf who has dedicated her life to studying the art of witchcraft. She has crossed a great deal of lines in her pursuit of knowledge. That’s fine with her. Jeska likes to give the impression that she is smarter than most by using unnecessarily large words. It doesn’t usually work. Despite her inability to come across as a threat through words, her actual abilities are no joke. She seems to be a witch who’s got it all.

NERIUM // The young and dastardly dryad Nerium unabashedly considers himself a bad guy and feels no shame in all the wrongdoing he commits. He only desires the most amazing of things. According to himself, at least. If someone as fantastic as him has deemed it worthy to have, it must be fantastic by default. Nerium has a massive amount of natural power and that is what’s gotten him this far. It’s definitely not any talent for thinking things through.

LEXIS // Lexis is not exactly the usual suspect. She is a stone guardian that was created by a now defunct secret society. With everyone she once protected dead or scattered across the land, Lexis was left behind to just do whatever, they guess. Apparently kidnapping people is what she decided on? Lexis is oblivious when it comes to most social interactions and doesn’t seem to realize how serious the situation is.

From left to right...
PO // Po is a deeply emotional creature with a “delicate constitution” (as in, it tends to faint a lot). It only reacts to situations in extreme ways, whether or not such a strong response is really needed. Being the spawn of its tribe’s current chief and a very attractive individual, Po has a never ending amount of suitors. This overabundance of attention has turned Po off from the concept of relationships. It'd take something pretty special to impress it.

LILLUM // The demoness Lillum is one of the baddest bitches in town with an array of lesser demon minions. She’s hot-headed, impatient, and not terribly easy to cooperate with. She’s used to making all decisions herself. Lillum prefers to play by the rules, but still has the heart of a villain. As far as she’s concerned, kidnapping people? Not a problem. Choosing kidnap her and making her go through this hassle? That’s a problem.

BAIRD // Baird is a werewolf of many talents. He’s not only the alpha of his pack but a proud business owner as well. He credits all his success to the fact that he has two very distinct personalities. His levelheaded humanoid self and his brutal, aggressive wolf self. Yet another impressive quality is that Baird can swap between his forms at will. The only problem with that is the fact that it’s a bit of a challenge to convince the wolf side of him to switch back.

Oh, congratulations on finishing this! I remember seeing some of the progress posts, and it looks really fun. Adding it to my neverending list of VNs to read sometime, which is getting even longer with the end of nanoreno. :)

I'm sure I'll find this out when I get to reading it, but I'm curious - is the story completely different for every pairing, or are some parts different and some parts the same? And does the game keep track of which pairings you've read already, so that it doesn't generate the same one again?

Thank you parttimestorier :D.

The story for each couple is entirely unique, but very short because of that.

Nope, the game won't stop the same couple from appearing if you've already gotten them. That would've been bad for anyone who wanted to see all the outcomes for a story, replay the game for whatever reason, or if more than one person in the household wanted to play the game. Maybe in a future update we'll add a choice button to let you automatically skip stories you've already seen or something along those lines. But it wasn't possible to add/properly test something like that in the Nano time frame.

Is it even possible to get bad endings? All my couples were successful. Though, only one got the chibi CG in the end. I guess other two were okay, but not marvelous.
The couples I've got first were Witch/Werewolf, Plant/Demon, Construct/Blob. I liked the Construct/Blob the best, surprisingly!, because it was just a misunderstanding

@YonYonYon
Yeah, there is a bad ending for each pair that comes in two versions. But I figured easily avoidable bad endings and somewhat tricky best endings was the way to go for a game like this.

Thanks for answering the questions. It's neat to see how things went for other people :D.

Hello there!
First off, congrats on a successful NaNo release!

This game, though the playthroughs were short was very enjoyable! What with the quirky characters and each of their…uhm… ‘abduction’ stories? That being said, I’ve only played through twice, and will be revisiting to get the better endings later!

The first pairing set I got was Lexis/Baird, Nerium/Po and Lillum/Jeska. And I think I was only able to create a worthwhile conclusion for Nerium and Po- must be because of Po’s adorableness or the fact that I really really REALLY like Nerium… Maybe it’s the character design? Maybe it’s his reputation as a trouble-maker…Maybe it’s how despite his reputation he claims to be thoroughly taken by the adorable blob that has a surprisingly large number of sharp teeth (Really, did NOT see that coming). I’m utterly taken. X’D Clearly, I’m a very bad divorce attorney though. There goes another career prospect off the list.

On a serious note, though. I like how grumpy/badass Lillum is, how downright adorable Po is, how Baird has a… *cough*ferocious*cough* beast within him. Lexis seems a little too goody goody for my taste, but then again, she balances out the rest of the characters very well!

The GUI is AH-mazing and the blink animation was a nice touch.
The art was also very beautiful and the character designs so on-point. It’s also nice (motivating actually) to see how much silverhyena’s art has changed from their ‘Sacred Sand’ days. ^^

All in all, a job well done! Thank you for this amazing game.

Also, Imma leave this here…. >.< (Yes, I may have feminized him too much… Woooopsies ~(._.)~)

A nice story and quite amusing how the characters re-appeared in different combinations to give completely different scenarios of issues and solutions. I think Nerium was probably the most amusing one regardless of the pairing for me, he was the only one actually being the kind of person that the bureau was made for and he was so direct about everything. The others were also nice but could have a hit-or-miss with their parings at times. Although if I'd had to pick one fav it'd be Nerium and Po because of those curves :P

Thanks very much for all the feedback! I'm really happy to hear that you liked the characters. And I guess Nerium must be as an impressive of a bad guy as he says. He's able to take people within the game's world and outside of it :wink:. I definitely agree that the group all did a wonderful job with the art and design of the game.

Oh wow *o*! Thank you so much drawing one of our characters ;v;. It's such a nice picture <3.
*saves it forever*

@Plutoparfait
Thank you :D. I hope you'll have some fun with it when you get a chance to play!

@Mammon
Haha, thanks. I definitely didn't want Nerium's I'm-just-a-bad-guy-ness be wasted by downplaying it. I'm glad it worked out.

I played it on the long drive back home today and I love it! owo It took me about... 2-ish hours to get every best ending?

-What were the first couples you got?: Jeska and Po, Nerium and Lillum, and Lexis and Baird (that last pairing took me so dang long to figure out orz it was the last one)
-What couples were your favorites?: I really loved Jeska and Po. Besides being the first couple that I got the best ending for, I really loved how they acted with one another at the end
especially when they both talk about how others struggle to understand their speech - so cute! And I liked how Po had to drop hints that it wanted to see Jeska again. Took her a second to catch on, haha.
My second favorite was probably Lexis and Lillum.
For one thing, it was the one that got the most emotion out of Lexis, which I found to be interesting to see. It was clear that her feelings were hurt - and of course they should have been, I would've been angry too if I'd tried to ask a girl out and she ended up turning me in as a criminal. But I also thought there was something significant for Lillum there, since in the best ending she seemed to be legitimately remorseful for wronging Lexis (that genuine apology <3) and actually took the initiative to try to set up another date despite Lexis's being slow to understand the situation.
And then Nerium and Baird! (Honestly, though, I just loved all of Nerium's stories. He was... surprisingly romantic, haha. My other favorite not on this list is him and Po. Actually, I really liked all of Po's too. The kidnappers all just ended up doting on Po and it was So Tired Of Their Shit.) But anyway, as for Nerium and Baird,
I just thought that Nerium's lovestruck-ness was particularly adorable in this one considering it was for a Big Bad Wolf who wanted nothing to do with him. And the way that Nerium slowly came around to Baird's human side, and the human side's reciprocation, was fun to read.
-Was the random pairing thing fun?: It was fun, it added a little element of surprise to the game and meant that I wasn't playing the same ones over and over. It wasn't even that hard to get the last ending after I realized I could just save and retry as many times as I needed to, so really if I had been having a lot of trouble with them I could have easily made a save slot for each pairing.
-What did you think of the game overall?: Great concept, fun characters, really well executed. 10/10 would recommend. c:

Thank you very much for giving it a go! I'm really glad you enjoyed the finished game :mrgreen:. Haha, sorry your last couple gave you a bit of a hard time. I still haven't gotten around to putting up that guide. I should really do that before I get caught up in other things again.

And thank you for answering our questions. I had fun reading your opinions on your favorite couples >v<

Well, I played it twice and I got the same couples, so I wasn't aware they could come in different combinations, so now I will have to play it again! :D

My favourite character was Nerium, I love his smirk and attitude, and in his case he came with Lillum, and the made the most adorable couple ever :) The first time I played, I managed somehow to get the bad endings for all three couples, hahahaha! In my second try I got the "OK" endings for them (what a relief). I will definitely play it at least once more; it's a short game but it's very entertaining, and I found the concept very original and fun.

Thank you :mrgreen:! I hope you'll like the other pairings too, if randomizor gets itself together and gives you some new couples already, haha.
