Neighbouring islands

#1 Post by BAD_team »

Hello friends and fans of interesting narrative games! Let's get acquainted.

Blue Angry Dog is a young team of developers of visual novels. The skeleton of the BAD team consists of two friends: Maxim (writer and artist) and Sergei (programmer and editor). Maxim lives in Donetsk, Sergei - a resident of Kerch (Crimea).

After 2014, the life of the members of our team was drastically changed for external reasons. Many things turned upside down, but one thing remained the same - a burning desire to make games that not only give players unforgettable emotions, but also make their imagination run to its fullest.

What can make a modern person, accustomed to the content in show-attraction format, use their imagination better, than a good book? Interactive book! The good thing is that the modern gaming industry has the tool we need - quite popular genre of “visual novel”.

At the moment BAD team is working on two projects, first of them, graphic novel “Neighbouring islands”, have been released in Steam. We want to bring it to your attention.
The key feature of this graphic novel is an opportunity to take part in its events, directly influencing the development of the plot. Every decision of the player-reader can change the course of the narrative in one direction or another. Author's music and beautiful graphical design will help to get immersed deeper into the atmosphere of secrets and adventures.

A little about the plot
Year 1710, Golden Age of Piracy. The story begins in one of numerous taverns of the island Tortuga, located in the north of Caribbean basin. Right here, the crew of the pirate vessel “Siren Santy” agrees to take part in a risky venture of their captain, setting sail to the expanses of troubled waters of the legendary Devil’s Triangle. The following events will take the seafarers to the expanses of unexplored tropical islands, hiding many secrets and mysteries of the past. The protagonist, pirate and daredevil Robert O’Sallivan, will have to pass many trials in a fight for his own life and lives of his comrades.

Features of the project
1) Non-linear and engrossing plot of the graphics novel;
2) Different endings to the story players create;
3) Vivid and thought-out characters;
4) Carefully designed world, beautiful and detailed maps will help you navigate it;
5) Magnificent authorial soundtracks, helping you immerse yourself deeper in the story;
6) Pirate setting, mixed with mystery and adventure;
7) Regular updates, moving the story forward!

As indicated in point 7, the novel will be released in parts, while an interesting scheme will be used - "Pay once - play forever". In our case, this means that once players have installed the game on device, they will have access to constant updates that will move the main story forward. This approach is largely similar to the modern series, which keep the viewer in suspense from episode to episode.

"Neighbouring islands" is available on Windows, Linux & Mac in English and Russian.

I like different art styles. I find it discouraging when many examples across a media format or a genre look too similar. The style which you're using for Neighbouring Islands looks photorealistic. I'm not sure how else to classify it.

That said, I usually associate this type of art with stories which are dour, horrifying, and violent, with characters who are constantly antagonistic toward each other. Though I could be wrong. So... is this a frequently downbeat story?

The story is tough but without kinks. At least the first chapter is like that. The second chapter will be much more severe. There is a place for humor too. We tried to make the story interesting for an older audience, not just for teenagers.
