Actually, Jake gets tired of the /b-esque casual insults and rudeness very quickly.

Having a few problems with this one as far as the engine goes. I've ticked "wait after each line", but it doesn't. Which means during the intro the text goes too fast for me to follow. I tried scroll wheeling around, but then it wouldn't scroll down until it had scrolled all the way up. Then in the second bit of dialogue/exposition right at the start it wouldn't scroll at all, either with the wheel or the keyboard.

chunderbunny pointed me here ... sorry for not seeing your post sooner, I've not been around (due to hideously busy Work Related Issues) for the past few weeks.
Consider your bug report noted; at the very least we'll try and fix the text speed so it's possible to slow it down effectively (not sure why the text speed control doesn't work well, but it doesn't seem to).

Thanks for the response. ^^ One of those things alone wouldn't be enough to bug me but everything combined makes it very frustrating to try and play. Which is sad, since I really enjoyed MS and I was looking forward to playing this one, too!

I have a question: is there a working Mac version of the first game somewhere on the internet? The download links don't seem to be working on the studiomab website (even though I registered and logged in) for MorningStar (#1). I'd prefer to play the first before I play this one... :/

In a sense, no, the original was Windows only.
That said, we did port the original game over to the new engine earlier this year so it's something that sort of exists. Although it really needs re-testing due to the all the updates we made to the engine post-MSZ launch (mainly dumping SDL because it was rubbish). So if you don't mind waiting a while until my work is no longer insanely insane, I can put together an OSX version.

I'm actually impressed with this. I've always wanted a sequel and I got one (of sorts). I only noticed this posted a couple of days ago...
Having no problems with the text speed -- can read fast enough as it gets written. Just have a couple of questions though.
Can you tell me why Shichiro still looks like he's 12? I would assume he'd at least have a beard or something. Is it an offspring with the same name, or related to his Meta Power?
I personally like the re-use of existing resources but I felt the original just had a little more to offer. Not to say I don't like MSZ, as I quite obviously do.
If Kagome's mom is who I assume it is, shouldn't it be more like
Grandmother at this point, given the 75 years (about) in between this and Morning*Star?
I also notice the fountain
STILL hasn't been fixed
Love,
Squark
Shizu's dialogue font is as creepy as she is. Nice match! =^-^=
I'm also fond of the dry, sarcastic humour in this. Makes me really feel that Kagome isn't a clone (even though it's stated in the opening and at some points in the game itself)
Also, with regards to the first game, did you ever figure out how to relay Hikari's emotions to the dialogue window?

Eh, sorry about the super late replies; I haven't been around LSF recently (too busy with work).
how many extras is it possible to unlock.
Yeah, if you've beaten it five times you've unlocked every real extra. When you get
every possible ending, the game tells you that you've seen every possible ending, but it doesn't unlock anything extra.
Can you tell me why Shichiro still looks like he's 12? I would assume he'd at least have a beard or something. Is it an offspring with the same name, or related to his Meta Power?
The former. None of the characters were intended to be the exact same people from MorningStar: either clones or descendants.
I personally like the re-use of existing resources but I felt the original just had a little more to offer. Not to say I don't like MSZ, as I quite obviously do.
You're not wrong, we were just thinking "what can we do for NaNo without access to an artist". Given new art I'm sure we could have made it better...
I also notice the fountain STILL hasn't been fixed
One of the defining features of the MorningStar universe is a severe lack of qualified plumbers.
Also, with regards to the first game, did you ever figure out how to relay Hikari's emotions to the dialogue window?
No; the problem wasn't "this isn't technically feasible", but more that "when writing the scenes, we never indicated in the scripts what emotion she would be feeling" (as opposed to the NPCs, whose emotions you
do see and we put in from the beginning). We'd need to go back through every script and add in the necessary information to display Hikari's emotions which is more tedious than anything else.
If we ever do a re-re-
re-release I guess we could add that in.

A little late, but understandable. Thanks all the same for the reply, Fice... I was wondering if you were still alive or not ;P
A "re-re-re-release"? Beggars the question, how many re-releases of MorningStar have been done? I know all about the verious bugfix releases... but that's all I know. I know it won't ever happen, just wondering.... As usual.
I still remember my first playthrough of the original... Was kinda going after Kasumi... and then... "Damn." is all I thought. *is also not familiar with the "san-san" thing*

Hm. Past the original (and the various patches we made to it), the only real updates were the
CD version we sold at conventions (still do, technically) which added OSX/Linux support, and a few general fixes to the engine; and when we released MSZ, we updated MorningStar to run on the new engine (the current version of which again doesn't change much but fixes a few issues; e.g. the OSX version is self-contained and doesn't need any external libraries installed, all platforms have slightly better quality sound/music than the original release due to dropping SDL).
That said, since moving hosting companies, I suspect none of the newer versions are actually available for download at the moment.

I just have one small question remaining.
Is it even remotely possible for Kagome to survive without a partner? I did quite well, but Natsuki kicked my ass so hard...

Is it me, or is there a bug in the server-side software for all the links from the Home page for the mabsoft site? I stumbled onto this thread here an hour or so ago, and after much hunting, I cannot find a download, just a pile and a half custom server/database errors.
