The Curious Alliance (fantasy game)

The Curious Alliance

I'm very pleased to announce that The Curious Alliance is finished. :D

Story
Since receiving his Summoner's amulet, Albert has searched through out the empire for remnant artifacts of the previous civilization, accompanied by his companion demon Neph. The two arrive in the remote town of Ravensford on the rumor of such an artifact, but find the town haunted by the vampire Darien von Creighton.

The Curious Alliance is a linear, non-romantic visual novel in a light-hearted fantasy setting. I estimate roughly forty five minutes to an hour of gameplay.

Characters

Image
Neph
Neph claims to be a demon general at least 10,000 years old, but not even Albert knows if this is true or not. While often times loud and obnoxious, she is also a loyal friend. She likes anything salty or sweet, as long as it doesn't have mushrooms, olives or onions in it.

Image
Albert
As a young Summoner, Albert only received his amulet 20 years ago and only has a contract with one demon. He tends to be unfailingly polite to strangers, but keeps them at arm's length if they get too close. Albert enjoys hot baths and a good book.

Image
Darien von Creighton
The von Creightons ruled over the town of Ravensford until vampires killed Darien's father and turned him into a vampire as well. He collects whatever catches his interest, usually things that sparkle, and has a vast collection of magical items left by his parents. Darien quite possibly needs glasses, but claims it undignified for a vampire to wear them.

Image
Saya
Saya has long been the guardian of the forest surrounding the von Creighton estate. She is a shy and sweet-natured girl who speaks only in a soft voice. Although never able to solve them herself, Saya loves riddles.

Thanks, Lyyli. I don't have any definite plans for a second part, just vague plans of maybe another adventure for Albert, Neph and Saya to go on in the future.

This seems like the kind of story used to begin a series. Especially since
the character that seemed in most need of more development (Saya) just joined up with the main character
Anyway, this demands at least another game.

lepapillonrouge: I hope you enjoy when you have time to play. :) It hasn't change too terribly much from the version I gave out for proofreading but there is an extra scene now.

azureXtwilight: Thank you! I can't take credit for the music though, but I'm glad you liked the story.

KimiYoriBaka: I hope this demands more in a good way, as in you want to read more. As I said, I don't currently have any plans for another installation of The Curious Alliance but I did intentionally leave it open for more should I get more ideas.

Haha, I laughed so much. Silly Darien. It was really interesting! I think the title you chose for the game is very suitable.

I really loved playing this! XD
The characters, the art, their personalities and how their feelings were portrayed, it was all perfect! XD XD XD
I hope you'll make a sequel to this, it really was great. =D
Oh, and i nearly died laughing when
Albert woke up, and was dressed in a pink dress!!! XD OMG! LOVED IT! XD I felt bad for the vamp in the end, but I still enjoyed the ending. Oh, and even though its not a romance thing, I'm still a Gilbert x Neph fan! XD
LOL~! XD

The Curious Alliance is one of the sweetest kinetic novels I've played in a long time! It was creative, exciting, funny, heartwarming, cute, and well executed. Terrific job!

Your writing style is great, and so was the story! There were a few times that I got hung up on some of the sentences, but nothing big enough to detract from the story. However, one thing I wanted to mention is that I found the NVL mode in the game a little awkward when characters in the story were talking. Since the previous statements always told me who was speaking, having the name right next to the words felt a bit cumbersome. For example:

When asked why the caravan leader had simply stated,
Caravan Leader That valley is cursed. You’d do well to avoid it young man.

Maybe inserting a colon after the name or removing the name altogether would give it a cleaner feeling, but again, this didn't detract from the story.

The art was also good and all the characters were well designed! I would have liked to have seen the cut-ins as nicely rendered as the characters, but the sketchy, simple style did add some humor to the actions being shown.

Other than that, it was awesome! I have nothing else to say other than fantastic job and I look forward to your next game! :D
