Re: [The Dreaming] v0.9 (windows only)
Thanks for PMing the tips. I just got all the endings. Absolutely AMAZING! That was such a cool story and I didn't forsee the twist at the end. Definately going to check out some of your other games.
@babyfish: To be honest there were points in the game that really scared me too. The first couple of playthroughs I had to quit until the family got back home. Finishing it is worth it though. Honestly some games are more frightening than horror films. . .

I think horror games(If they are done correctly) are always more frightening than horror films. After all, it's YOU involved in it(Sort of) instead of some random dillweed that you hope is gonna die before the movie ends. lolrubythorns wrote:Honestly some games are more frightening than horror films. . .

Re: [The Dreaming] v0.9 (windows only)
*takes a deep breath*
I did it. I finished the game, and what a ride it's been.
Julius' plight is now, incredibly, completely clear to me. I have to admit, it took a lot of detective work, but then again this game is pretty much like a puzzle. As you play through it, you collect bits and pieces along the way, and once you put them all together, the picture is all clear. Personally, I think that this aspect of the game was executed quite well. Unfortunately, that meant getting the 'True' Ending becomes an incredibly difficult feat, but that's understandable, since achieving the 'True' Ending would have to entail collecting all the pieces to the puzzle, even if it does involve a lot of backtracking and exhausting every option there is.
The chess scene was also rather cute. X3
While I said before that Julius is an intriguing character, I have to say that Gabrielle turned out to be the more interesting one. It would have been nice, though, to see the other 'characters' show a little more depth and development.
Also, the game scares me less now. XD All I have to do is convince myself that it's not real, it's just a game... you can guess where I'm getting at.

Yeah. That's the main criticizm I've been getting. I promise, I'll make everything a little easier in my next games.babyfish wrote:Unfortunately, that meant getting the 'True' Ending becomes an incredibly difficult feat, but that's understandable, since achieving the 'True' Ending would have to entail collecting all the pieces to the puzzle, even if it does involve a lot of backtracking and exhausting every option there is.
Glad you liked the story. Actually, the twist was much more important to me that the "real happenings" behind everything, but I think it's still a plot most people find interesting.

I was really intrigued by the vn's synopsis and all the comments here, but... when I click on the download link, it says, "File not found." Could you possibly re-upload the game?

I'm not done playing yet, but I couldn't wait to give my opinion of this game. It is...just...incredible. Really incredible. It's cute, terrifying, and it really makes you think. The plot is very creative, and I love Julius's personality. I give this a 10 out of 10. Great job!
Re: [The Dreaming] v0.9 (Win/Mac/Linux)
Have not seen many visual novels (Let alone games for that matter) from this genre, so I will definitely give it a try because I am also making a psychological thriller as well. Will post my opinions later when I finish it .
Nothing to see here, folks. For now, anyway...

Will this game ever make it to version 1.0?

There IS a new version of this in the works, but not by me. Actually, I've done little more than helped with the script proofreading once again and gave the artist some ideas about the art. The rest... hopefully, before summer.Yonowaaru wrote:Does that mean you are working on a new version of this? Now that is great news .

Will it still have the Nightmare Fuel Unleaded that 0.9 delivered?Taleweaver wrote:There IS a new version of this in the works, but not by me. Re: [The Dreaming] v0.9 (Win/Mac/Linux)
I was a little skeptical at first glance, but after playing a bit I have to say that I really love this game! I only wish I had played it sooner! I'm having a lot of fun reading the different paths and learning about Julius and his past. I'm also excited to see what gets changed in the next version, and I hope the extra polishing bumps up the scare factor. I haven't gotten ending six yet but I'm going to keep trying a bit longer until I ask for a walkthrough.
I have no idea if you're still taking critiques since this is an older version and you've said you're not handling the new version as much, but I would suggest perhaps maybe asking those who ARE working on it if they could
I also really hope that the gui is changed a bit to make the game stand out a bit more. Even if it was just changing the ADV and NVL text boxes it would be a vast improvement from basic ren'py and would probably make more people eager to give it a try. Also it might be good to change the credits so that the person will click through them instead of just watching them pass by so that they aren't missed, as mentioned in this thread? I didn't even realize there were credits until I saw you had mentioned it.

find a slightly different scream sound? It's just that the one used sounds like it's a one of those extremely commonly used stock screams like the 'wilhelm scream' and it ruined the effect a bit in my opinion.
The rest of the audio is excellent, especially the sounds that were used for straight-jacket wearing creature!
That creeped me out so much! I also really hope that the gui is changed a bit to make the game stand out a bit more.
