He comes from a well-off family and has a Cambridge education, but he wanted to see the world and had some conflicts with his family, and joining piracy seemed a good and lucrative option. He’s smart and witty, strong, and observant. And has no qualms in killing in cold blood if needed. He acts aloof with his minions, always keeping his distance, and has no friends. He prefers to be a lone wolf than being betrayed.
