Light & Dark: Tale of an Assassin

#1 Post by Twilit »

A Visual Novel I've been working on to increase my skills in Ren'py,

I came up with the story on a whim so it's not the best but I did make it flow somehow, I *borrowed* sprites and backgrounds and music again because I couldn't make them being a one man team(except the battle scenes), the reason I called it light & dark was because I couldn't think of anything else at the time.

Unlike the last game this one should be Bug free, have no spelling errors & the music doesn't skip. I basically consider this game to be my Tsukihime(Type-moon's VN first work), as such I didn't bother give it a custom bar or change text color, etc.....my next game will kick much more tail.....be nice if I had a team though

*****Story*****
Wilt is a 20 year old game designer in training attending college with his best friends Rhys and Melody. At least during the day, at night he is the Disciple of the Assassin, Aurora.

Thrown into the middle of two sides he struggles with both aspects of life trying to live on the border between. Just staying alive is difficult but now with strange deaths popping up all over, he will be forced to stand on a side. The lives of those he cares for will be tested as will his own beliefs.......

Which road will he take....Light or Dark

(Personal pet peeve - feel free to completely disregard this as a lot of people feel differently)

The best way...

to make me...

lose all interest...

in playing a story...

is to make me...

click my mouse...

this many times...

...

...

... in order to...

see any text...

at all...

I can do this for a small number of lines for impact, but please don't write your whole prologue like this! :) I read super-fast so I'm having to click almost constantly and that gets old very fast.

How can it possibly take three seconds to read one sentence? o.o

Seriously, the better way to do it is to have a paragraph or two appear, then click through. I know the scrolling is for atmosphere, but it causes. Carpal. Tunnel Syndrome.

my BIG pet peeve: there are a MAJOR CASE FUCKUP !!!!!!

it's the sixth time or so that the game crashes because the OS (Linux) don't find the file, because of the case difference, and now I'm really fed up....

Vote: 0 (I never reach beyond the intro, and after the sixth case-correction, I have exausted my patience.....)

best regards from italy, and remember:

not all filesystem are case-insensitive !!!!

I suppose making sure all your cases to match would be the best practice for cross platform compatibility.

I haven't tried this yet, just wondering if there are any fluidity issues with having a completely different artist for each sprite?

A little if I had to say, but I'm not the most reliable source since I don't have an eye for art
