They're too close to group together in this case. Not everyone knows what "type" of English they know, besides, they aren't too different. I've read quite a few books from England, and there's no real difficulty understanding the variations in spelling.

There's no such thing as "American" by itself that constitutes a language by that designation. It's only American English and the other countries that have other dialects/variations such as England/UK and Australia.
