Really?

Just as a point of comparison, I run an english language games site myself, and our country demographics for the past month look approximately like this:

60.5% United States
7.1% Canada
4.5% United Kingdom
3.4% Australia
3.2% Japan
2.6% Finland
2.1% Germany
1.0% Hong Kong
0.9% Hungary
0.8% Argentina

I don't have hard stats on our audience's gender and age, but I'm pretty sure it's about 99% male and centered around approximately 22 years old.

So according to this data, LSF seems a bit more "international" (in particular, LSF seems surprisingly popular in Asia), though the US is still the elephant in the room, so to speak. And it's obviously way more popular with girls than at least my own, hehe. :P

 that was stupid of me! Yeah, I meant it the other way around. Yeah, there are a lot of people from Asia here, it seems.

Not really checking the forums any more due to time constraints, so if you want to contact me, PM. I'll get a notification and log in.
Also, I've been hit and run posting, which means I don't see many replies. If you want to respond to something I've said, also feel free to PM me.

NOTE: if you've got questions about vnovel or things like that, it's Leon that you should be contacting. Leon's been pretty much handling everything, but due to various reasons, I've had to withdraw entirely.

Hard data on that - taking into account lurkers:

40.92% United States
7.15% Canada
4.41% United Kingdom
4.17% Philippines
4.03% Indonesia
3.42% Australia
2.77% Germany
2.55% Malaysia
2.24% Netherlands
2.19% Singapore
1.93% France
1.78% Russia
1.50% Poland
1.18% Brazil
1.09% Romania
1.09% Italy (of which 30% is jack_norton)

Those are the countries with more than 1% of LSF's membership.

I think the big thing that comes out here is the large number of users from Oceania in the list. Also interesting is the low representation of Russia, and the lack of representation from Japan - they have 6.28% and 4.02% of the visits to renpy.org, respectively.

Edit: Or am I wrong about what to consider Oceania? Google says:

44.53% Americas
32.62% Europe
18.88% Asia
3.05% Oceania
0.48% Africa
0.44% Unknown

This surprises me greatly. I would have figured US users would have made up for a much larger portion than just 1/2.

This doesn't really surprise me. I can't comment on Russia, but for Japan I would just assume there are Japanese programs and sites out there that are similar to Ren'Py, and Japanese user friendly. That's only a guess though.

I agree with Cloudy on the Japan point; there are more than a few free/open source VN engines written in Japanese. KiriKiri for one, which, performance-wise, I put on par with Ren'Py, so it would make sense that you'd go for something in your native language.

The weirdness is the other way - Japan's representation on renpy.org - 4% is reasonable. It's the lack of representation here that's odd.

come on! Like we are not aware of their "very" good engrish 8)

Ahem! Just wanna mention that Japan has their "own" world in ALL ways possible. It's very rare seeing them coming out of their internet borders :'D
When we are at the computer lab last week, I got warned by my classmate for using Google Int'l. instead of Yahoo! Japan, surreal but true
