So they are down because of protesting, right? Not because they're taken down like Megaupload...

I think they are down because of fear... Those companies are not as strong as Megaupload is. Basically, uploaded.to is brand new... And fileserve isn't far away from new either...

Oh, and the RIAA is complaining about a program that lets you sell your music and autodeletes whatever you sell, as if you sold in a used CD. These people will never be happy.

If this stuff keeps going in this direction, I think anyone who wants to share anything, no matter how legal, will just upload it to TPB. It will be the best guarantee that your stuff will be available.

[start snark]Ah, yes, the TPB. The Swiss love storing things for questionable people without asking questions. Let's just move all pirated material on the internet to servers in Switzerland. I'm sure the Swiss will stay neutral and not take sides when other countries like the U.S. come knocking . . . . [/end snark]

Some news from Kim Dotcom: He's going to have Robert Bennett for his attoney, the same guy who also defended Bill Clinton during the Lewinsky affair and ENRON during the great oil spill. Charges are copyright infringement, money laundering and organized crime - the latter alone carrying a sentece of 20 years in New Zealand.

Dotcom is pleading not guilty to the charges, but the judge has refused a bail.

Hmmm... I don't really care what will happen to all the owners, they are all stinking rich by doing illegal things, that's a fact. But I do care if Megaupload dead. I hope someone buy Megaupload and continue the service.

Why not use one of the other alternatives I listed? it's safer than rely on some shady guy doing shady business :)
I can understand though that for hentai stuff, might be a problem (I don't think Google/Apple/Microsoft would allow that... sadly).

The problem would be how reliable they are. I can't try them all one by one and besides I'm already comfortable with Megaupload.

Of course seeing how things now, I have to find other hosting site (so thanks for the list).

I wonder how many on the list that's going to shutdown themselves? Like Enteruplaod and Filesonic...

Well, I highly suggest these: Mediafire, SugarSync, and Dropbox.

Mediafire is very useful and has speeds very close to what MU had. In addition you can make folders and share single links, or the folders in their entirety. It does have an upload limit, but most short games are not more than 200 MB. If they are, you can split them with the free HJSplit and they can be remerged through said program.

DropBox is a program that can be used very simply, by putting your files in a single folder. In that folder is a "Public" folder, and there you will be provided with a link to share it. It is also useful if you have a desktop and laptop and don't want to go through the hassle of moving everything manually as long as both have the program, or it can be used to download your files on another computer through your online profile if you forget something or have no way to get to a computer you own. It starts at 2 GB and can go to 8 with various services.

SugarSync is very much like DB, except it offers 5 GB, can be upgraded indefinitely, and as long as it is on your computer and running it will save everything in folders of your choice automatically, so even if your computer crashes you will not lose progress.

Alternately, I also suggest DepositFiles, Hotfile, RapidShare, and the services mentioned by jack_norton.

I use dropbox. It's pretty good. I also like Mediafire, it's fast. I don't like the rest.

The only reason why I still prefer Megaupload compared to the rest is because I can use download manager with Megaupload.

I'm wondering what people would think of an LSF-specific upload site.

The new forum server (which I ordered last Friday, will begin building this week, and will probably deploy sometime next month) will have 2x2TB of disk on it. (Raid 1, so 2TB useful storage.) Upgrading it to a 100mbps connection, while not free, would be relatively inexpensive.

Having our own upload service would be nice. Probably the biggest advantage is that we don't have to worry about it going down for legal reasons - since it would only have legit works on it, and we could choose people to patrol it for copyright infringement. We wouldn't have to worry about peoples' works being deleted due to lack of downloads, either.

It would take me only a few hours to make - once the new server exists, the coding is easy. We'd need volunteers to patrol it for copyright infringement. I'd want it to break even on a month to month basis - I might just do that by (finally) putting together the Ren'Py store, and making this associated with it.

Ren'Py store would be appreciated, especially for commercial hentai works which

1.) wouldn't be accepted in any games portal
2.) wouldn't be accepted by BMT Micro either (considered "high risk category" because adult materials tend to have high chargeback rate)
3.) wouldn't want to use the same payment processor as other porn sites such as CCbill (after all, this isn't just porn, it's "high art")
4.) Last time I checked DLsite English side is unresponsive and infested with spam and nobody seems to be doing some housecleaning.

I wouldn't be doing a Ren'Py store that innovates on credit card clearing. The current plan would be to just be an affiliate site, combined with the reddit algorithm for choosing the order in which games are displayed.

BMT Micro *does* sell a good bit of adult software iirc. I'm not sure if they do case-by-case approval for it or not as I haven't tried to use them for that myself, but I've definitely seen 3d porn products available for affiliates.
