Well, there is a certain points in favour both sides have.
The disrespect to intelectual property is common this days. I've seen branded names getting used without any legal permission or at least a copyright notice. And let's not talk about images and music, because there's so much you can't even count it.
But sharing a book is illegal? Why? It's the same when you make a photocopy of it. The original is there and the copy is just a less quality file (can be a photocopy or a PDF) of the same thing. It's like getting your bike stolen, then duplicated and in the morning is there in the exact same condition. It's just ridiculous to ban us from some stuff like old books, who most of them are from public domain and can be read by free.
But then again, piracy destroys companies. But not the big companies or the big bands. They destroy the small underground or starting bands, who try their harder to get money and/or fame, it can be a either good or bad to have their discs all over the web.
Why there is high levels of piracy? Sometimes because there are no good legal ways on getting stuff. In my country a season of House (as en example) cost 4 times more than getting it by ebay (plus shipping). Then, Itunes doesn't allow me to buy almost 70% of their content. Now with Netflix you have a few choices, but there isn't enough and well, people just download it illegally and/or buy copies.

It's a lot like SOPA and PIPA, except this time it's international... Like they said in the video, it's not the artists that directly benefit from this bill, it's the middle men that handle all the money (from what I understand).
How do they think they could possibly get away with it, though? Even if it did pass, the amount of people that would be "criminals" because of it would be impossible to track. If they could keep track of all the people and punish them, the courts and jails would be overcrowded. And, in general, companies would make even less money possibly due to consumers not being able to spread the word about their products without being criminalized.
These people have no idea how the internet really works. At all. :/
They want to get a better grip on the people, control everything we do and don't do... It's disgusting. There is no privacy left in this world if these kind of bills pass. I understand they want to stop theft, but all these ways are way too radical and and hurt everyone's rights. But who cares, as long as the big companies get more and more money, the rights of a little human don't matter.
Apparently,'ACTA' has already been signed by some major countries:
The agreement has so far been signed by the US, Australia, Canada, Japan, Morocco, New Zealand, Singapore and South Korea. Poland is expected to sign it in Tokyo on Thursday.
I can't believe how easy they pass ACTA, very different from SOPA/PIPA... what's actually going on? I guess they don't care about public opinion at all with ACTA, just sign it, since it's international treaty, unlike passing a national bill.

Correct me if I'm wrong. Although ACTA was signed, it still have no law power, right? Since it's only an international treaty. So it's kinda a guidelines for every signing countries.
To actually make it as law, each government have to make and pass it as a bill on their own countries (so the law could be varies from each country).
And that when we (citizen) could stop them from making absurd law, right?

I didn't think this bill was as bad as thought last time a thread was made for it, and I still don't now.
I just read the bill since that video seemed too over the top to be accurate and sure enough, it isn't. If you read through it, there are many many sections where it mentions that the treaty has no power over local laws of privacy and freedom of expression, and even states repeatedly that privacy and expression should not be infringed through anything related to the treaty.
also, the whole thing about going to jail for sharing is completely missing the part that it has to be copyright infringement on a commercial scale. There's no part of the treaty that mentions for criminal prosecution of mere sharing. and it does define intellectual property, if by proxy.
honestly, the treaty is so wishy-washy that it was pretty pointless to even bother with. It doesn't actually do anything.
Perhaps the treaty is wishy-washy or doesn't sound as bad as it used to be... but it doesn't stop them to try passing SOPA/PIPA once again, this time backed with ACTA in their hand.

My favourite part was the comment section. The very first post is "It's OK, they're only use it to get rid of bad Internets. Also, here is a picture of pretty lady." and then the follow up comments were confirming that the posted picture was, indeed, "teh hottness". That's how they're going to pass one of these things, isn't it? They're going to bring back SOPA, but this time it'll be under the name Seriously, Only Pornographic Acts, and it'll be the same law, only interspersed with the lovely ladies of page 1 of a Google image search, and then no one will be able to read any of the words.
