A userscript for lsf

#1 Post by DragoonHP » Mon Jul 30, 2012 7:41 am

This is a idea I have been thinking about for weeks.

How does an idea for a userscript for lsf sounds like?
The idea first came to my mind after seeing so many posts in Ren'Py Help section about hings which are easy to find if you use some search parameters like site, inurl and filetype.

When I asked around, most of the people said that they are very much fine with the way lsf is now (most probably because of all the crazy things I was planning) and the idea was kicked aside.

But after some more thinking about it, I decided to ask others opinion, so here I am.

I don't see why that would matter as userscripts can easily be turned off.

Can't help cause I don't know how to make one but good luck.

Hopefully your userscript evolves into a userstyle. Lots of gs script seem to be dead but stylish seems to be around and still kicking. Even saw one mega-userstyle for 4chan that allows you to switch some anime avatar I haven't heard of on top of pretty much changing almost everything about site.

Some things would like to see are:

-Clearer buttons for games list + clearer understanding of what WIP for newcomers
-Random cookbook thread
-quick searchbox always fun
-novel parameter for finding quick genre
:like: if not accidental google won't even know sound novel exists
-VN game list filter based on genre like search for horror would include horror tags
-Merge first unread post with bookmark topic
-Auto-subscribe when reply
-Blogs badges (though I think this is entering extension territory)
-Built in FastestFox/Autopager (Sometimes LSF too good, fastest fox loads even next topic and scrolling down leads to entirely new topic)
-VN break timer (sometimes in hopes for finding new code, get caught up in LSF topic and talk more than make game)
-Game topic highlight in games list (like red if many neg reviews, yellow if too few posts, green if catching fire, blue if normal game)
-Follow user posts notifier (think this was Reddit extension though)

And that's why userscripts are great; they can be switched on and off without any hassle.

And from the list you suggested, half of them are unfortunately, not possible because they are server dependent while userscripts can only temper with the webpage after it has been received by the browser.

I don't know. I've seen some crazy scripts out there. Like RES just for example:

http://redditenhancementsuite.com/features.html

Never saw these available on default Reddit:

User Tagger
Adds a great deal of customization around users - tagging them, ignoring them, and more.

Custom Dashboard
Keeping tabs on smaller less active subreddits used to be a chore. Not anymore with the RES dashboard. Set up widgets to your liking and keep an eye on subreddits, mail, the mod spam queue and more! The only limitations are your imagination.

Albeit it's a pretty big script project but not the first time I've seen mammoth changes in styles/scripts.

It's not an userscript though; it's an extension and extensions are more powerful when compared to userscripts.
And they most probably are using their server to sync the data between the extension users, so you can have a "like" like system.

I have no idea but to be honest I thought RES was a userscript.

I think it started that way which is why I thought it was still a userscript.

It's an easy mistake to make considering that Chrome converts (or at least treats) userscripts like extensions.
