Oh that was from some naive puritan female legislator who thought hentai was the source of all evil in the country.

Rumors should sometimes remain rumors.
I wouldn't want to lose my favorites series.
Echii isn't so bad, but I can... live without hentai.
Too much of a good thing is bad for you, as they say.

Sounds a lot like American politicians again.

"Christian Home values", LOL! Benjamin Franklin was a Deiist for a reason! And yet they still insist America is a "Christian" country with politicians who want to make Christian values a law?

And don't get me started about Israel... I know Israel is controversial, but I'll speak as a Jew with family in Israel here: Our prime minister, Nettanyahu of Israel, takes military advice from a schizophrenic religious nut (Ovadia Yosef) who believes the only purpose of gentiles (non-Jews) are to serve us. Let me repeat that: Our prime minister of Israel takes military advice from a schizophrenic religious nut who believes the only purpose of gentiles is to serve Jews.

It concerns me as a Jew with family in Israel that our leader takes advice from a schizophrenic religious nut. So I can sympathize with those who deal with similar kinds of nuts in other countries.

There was also the fact that the founding fathers didn't want the country to be swayed by religious powers (having seen what happened to France with the Catholic Church) and this gave us the freedom of religion. Of course, many of those people who push their "Christian Home Values" are ones that read "freedom of religion" as "freedom of my own religion, and everyone else's can go sod off"

I just hope they can open their minds to other people's thoughts.

Benjamin Franklin was also a member of the Hellfire Club, a secret society devoted to meeting in secret to do things the general populace believed would "condemn them to the hellfire". So sexy time parties probably. Ben Franklin famously said the best way to learn French was the way he did - in bed with French prostitutes. That man is a hero and inspirational role model to me....

Thomas Jefferson was also a Deist and even wrote his own version of the Bible that removed all the miracles and supernatural elements. I'm sure the man intended the document he wrote (in a few days in a hot sweaty room while being pressured by his friends to hurry it up) to be taken as the word of God and followed unchanged for centuries....

But so many in America insist the Founding Fathers were a bunch of ultra conservative religious saints. They were so much more awesome and human than that. I don't want the fake George Washington that chopped down a cherry tree and could not tell a lie, I want the real George Washington who was ready to let a French commander believe he chopped the scalp off an innocent French diplomat rather than admit his gentlemanly French language skills sucked. How cool is it to let someone believe you're a murderer rather than admit to them your French is sub-par?

I hate seeing censorship and retconning history in any part of the world. The internet needs to stay a Wild West of freedom and open opinions and ideas.

I'm a Christian and I agree :)
But...
Wikipedia wrote:Like the other advocates of republicanism, Franklin emphasized that the new republic could survive only if the people were virtuous.
I agree with him... we can legislate morality all we like, but in the end it is the personal responsibility of each and every citizen to keep his country a safe and good place to live.

To be honest, politics is a difficult area for me as a Christian American. I understand that not every American subscribes to my particular views on what is and isn't good. I think it might be better if everyone had more freedom and laws were less dependent on the majority - since the majority could always want pedophilia to be legal, or tell me I couldn't go to school because I was a girl, and that would be scary. But since right now I do have a vote, and everyone else is voting according to their belief system, it feels wrong not to vote according to mine, especially if the government sponsors things that I have moral qualms about. Since I pay taxes, that means my money is going to things I don't think it should be - and if I don't vote against those things, then I'm essentially supporting them. It's a conundrum.

And now the election is coming and I don't care for either of the candidates.
I don't know what political party I am... ;_;

EDIT: I'm really sorry if I'm crossing the line on political discussion by posting this. I will remove it if necessary...
