Adventure X - Adventure gaming con in London December
I hope this is OK to post here. I am part of a group organising an adventure games convention in London in December. By extension we're welcoming creators and fans of related genres including Visual Novels, Interactive Fiction etc. The event itself won't charge to enter but we're trying to fund-raise via Indiegogo to cover costs.
I'd love to see some folks from the VN Community take part. We'll also be putting as much of the event online after as we can. Please spread the word. It's looking to be a great event and we already have a number of really cool guests lined up.
AdventureX - for adventure game fans, game designers & those just curious!
Hi folks, I'd like to give you a heads up about a possible AdventureX event this year. With your help we can make it happen! No tickets this year, instead a funding campaign on good old IndieGoGo. With the goal met, we can hire a central London location and allow visitors to enter for free.
http://www.screen7.co.uk/adventurex
Another line up of well known and lesser known developers will be along to give talks, there'll be a bunch of new games to see and plenty more to do. Things are not finalized, and I'd welcome anyone with an interesting idea to get in touch.
http://www.indiegogo.com/adventurex2012
If you can spare a few dollars to make it happen in 2012, you'll help strengthen it for the future - so whether you may be able to turn up this year or not, you can certainly help others enjoy the event this year.
There is disabled access and we'll have a webcast running this year, on-site wifi and the famous Peticote Lane market is just outside the front door - so come along!
The Adventure Gamers write up of the first event last year:
http://www.adventuregamers.com/articles/view/18648
Features this year - help us reach the funding goal!
- Dave Gilbert, Wadjet Eye Games
- Stephen Marley, Martian Gothic & Dreamweb
- Alex Warren, creator of Quest (for text adventures)
- ??????? ?????, help us reach our goal to announce another special guest!
- Daily games showcasing, choose your own adventure game, short masterclasses
- Competitions, quiz & after-party
Thank you for your support - see you in London later this year?

This is a great idea, and I'm glad to see people getting together to do this. Although I can't attend, I've kicked in a little bit to help promote this sort of things. Here's hoping that we can get people from the LSF/VN/Ren'Py community to show up.
I'm surprised that you're able to run the whole thing for $2200 - that seems like can incredible value to me. I wish everyone there the best.

Thanks it's really appreciated, I hope we can reach the goal we're so lucky to have found a central London location. We'll try to get as much of it online as we can.
If anyone has any suggestions of any other related community who might be interested let us know, thank you!

Small bump to say this only has 11 days to get funded but we're still $644 off which is doable thanks to everyone for their support so far. The following guests have also been added!
ALEX WARREN (Quest)
The text adventure scene & his own free online engine
JOHN INGOLD (Inkle Studios)
Discussing the scene & his work on a new Sorcery! gamebook

This is pretty cool. Kudos to you guys for putting this together, it simply can't be easy. If I didn't live so far away, I would happily attend. Good luck!
The best reason to get up in the morning is to outdo yourself: to do it better than you've ever done it before. But if you haven't done it better by nightfall... look at your globe and pick a spot: it's always morning somewhere.

Fantastic idea. If I was still living in London, I definitely would have attended.
I'd still be interested to hear how it went, after the event.

The #renpy IRC channel is a great place to chat with other devs. Due to the nature of IRC and timezone differences, people probably won't reply right away.

Dang.
I've pretty much GOT to be there! I think I'll invest my payment for Bionic Heart 2 into this trip. If only London wasn't so expensive...

oh good, *not* the same weekend as dragonmeet.
I might be able to be around, but I don't actually live in London so I have to check how often I can infringe on my friends' couches. But if you're looking for more exhibitors let me know.

Thanks folks, even if you can't attend we're going to try and film as much as we can and make it available online so hopefully you'll be able to catch a bit.
@ Papillion We probably do, best person to talk to is Mark the main organiser you can contact him via the site : http://www.screen7.co.uk/adventurex/contact.html
@ Taleweaver I hear ya, you can do it if you're jammy though if you book transport ahead and consider coaches rather than trains etc ( and also youth hostels are your friend). I do understand money is tight though, so if you can't come in person I hope you'll be able to catch some our online content.

Actually, money isn't _that_ tight - I'll be able to afford a hotel for the two days I'm there - but strangely, all they seem to offer is double rooms. It would definitely be more effective if I found someone to book one of said rooms together with me.Azure wrote:@ Taleweaver I hear ya, you can do it if you're jammy though if you book transport ahead and consider coaches rather than trains etc ( and also youth hostels are your friend). The flight itself is the most pricey part, of course. I've already checked a few prices, and they're well within my range; there's even a cheap bus from London Stansted (where my plane lands) to Liverpool St. (near the location), and there are a few affordable hotels in range of Liverpool St. Only... well, double-rooms. Almost all of them.

Ahh ok have you tried a chain hotel? you might have to go for short tube ride but there are a few if you don't mid a bit of travel:
http://www.travelodge.co.uk/hotels/269/ ... ooms-rates
Travelodge kings cross (10 min by tube)
http://www.easyhotel.com/hotels/london_ ... bican.html( 45 mins by tube)
Otherwise I guess you could try the AGS forums to find a room buddy?

Replied, we're creeping closer and have also added sponsor support tiers for anyone who'd like to sponsor the event

By the way, anyone else from this forum coming? I've got my flight booked, and having the opportunity to meet any of you people in person would be fantastic.
