Idea: The BxG/Bishoujo Project (?)

#1 Post by Deji » Tue Oct 30, 2012 9:28 am

(Please move if it's in the wrong section ;) )

Musing over this: http://lemmasoft.renai.us/forums/viewto ... 13&t=17633 and considering what Samu-kun said:
I really want to hear from people who do make visual novels for people who just want to see a parade of pretty girls
I don't mean BxG games or whatever you folks call them. I mean modern galge-type games using all Japanese tropes.
It should be fairly simple to make a bishoujo game, right? A generic-ish male protagonist and a bunch of pretty moe girls that are embodiment of cliche tropes! It can't be that hard :P

So I think it'd be fun to try to make short Bishoujo games, maybe as a contest? Maybe as a community project thing?
Something like the Cute, Light and Fluffy Project.
(though I'm not sure if it'll sink down like the Pet Project ): )

Like the previous projects, I guess raising your hand as writer, artist or programmer would do, and then you can... uhm... call dibs on team-mates from the people that have volunteered already? xD; Or just for teams by yourselves, if you'd rather not be teamed up with just anybody because you already have somebody you work together fine with.

We'd need some restrictions too? Like word count, and possibly a deadline, and uhm... that the entries are family friendly? xD

What do you guys think? (:

I guess it'd be interesting to write something that's all about getting girls. Ha ha ha... ha.

In any case, I'd be interested as a writer to crank out a BxG game.

We'd need someone to do the programming then! It's the most hateful job in the world. :( Also music.

Technically the pet project is still there, just at a bit of a standstill. I actually wrote and programmed a script, I just don't have the time to do art right now >_> I've been slowly, slowly chipping away at it.

All I can say is these types of projects get complicated fast. Best thing to do is like what the adversity project did and have 1 prompt, word restrictions, and then let everyone do whatever they want. Think of it as an anthology put together by separate authors, not something that has to fit together perfectly. Also, like anything else, as soon as you have teams and groups of people involved, you are going to have people dropping out, arguing, coming and going. A lot easier said than done.

Oh dear another thread Moya get the hell away from here just no stop think about the SCHOLARSHIPS

Yeah, if you're gonna do this then the one format I've seen that worked is the AdComp formula: word limit, limited resources, contest with money in it. But you know... there's money in it. Someone's gotta put cash in the pool of prizes, unless the winner gets a free piece of fanart for their own games. That could work, but hm.

In the case this does take off I'm willing to do coding for whatever, I suppose. It's kinda relaxing for me if it's just a straight-up VN/KN???

It's interesting. At least it worth to try it - this will show the problem that topic being drawn more clearly, and can be a break through if it got the best result.

Though I suggest to make a deadline - less than an half year. An half year is average time to make a short game (you know, one comiket term).

I will not give my any hand - because I think it'll become a bit unfair. But I'll give my cheer.

Rawr! Being a part of it, I want to remind everyone that we're still around, working slowly, but still with progress.

And wow, the discussion in the "Where Are The BxG" is really getting serious, isn't they? I didn't want to jump in since I wanted to watch and read the male's opinions. I've been giggling when I saw the increasing little number of BxGs VN after that thread was made.

Too bad that my hands are full right now, so I can't really offer anything. I'll just keep on watching this project. Good luck!

I have no idea what a good wordcount would be >: Do you goys know how much would be too long? I mean, the idea would be to make a short-ish game, I guess.

I wouldn't put limited resources as in the Adversity Comp, since that would leave the artists out (and we ant to have writers, artists an programmers working on this!), but limit the amount of sprites/CGs you can have, to make sure no group gets overwhelmed by planning a massive thing that they can't complete? And limited by using stock/photo BGs?
