The Horrors of Data Mining

#1 Post by Blue Lemma » Sun Feb 25, 2007 6:16 pm

I thought this is a great example of why you can't believe a lot of things on the internet. I was "Googling" some terms/places from my own Lemma visual novel world, and I came across something interesting. I wanted to make sure again that there was no actual "Raigaku University" in existence (the university Miko from ToL and Yuki from ToL2 >_< attend) so I searched for it. I got a just a couple hits - one from my old ToL 2 webpage and a very interesting one:

http://www.zoominfo.com/Search/PersonDe ... =471015079

Let's just say I'm not impressed with this company's information accuracy... And sadly, employers and others will pay them for info. Sad sad sad sad sad. :?

Well it's obviously automated and they do say it's not verified :). I just contest the usefulness of such a "device" if it's to have non-accurate information. Can't people Google by themselves since that's all this website is doing? ^^;...

I hate to bump a semi-old, very-dead topic, but I don't think this deserves a new thread. While searching for a Traditional Wubizixing input method for Mac OS X, I came upon this. I know lots of sites provide content by using programs to copy Wikipedia articles, but this is just lame.
