Hmmm, for me, this isn't far from the point I was making, it's the procedure and a few of this and that - but crucially there's no mention that the art needs to be drawn by a Japanese living in Japan.

And even so, I can fully understand the "originally from Japan" view from let's say the "emotional" POV. It's the Japanese flair that kind of makes it exotic and interesting and there's nothing wrong about that - as a reference you can look over to visualnews, the people there enjoying (doujin) OJL productions, even though content-wise they don't differ from OEL at all (even sound novels which aren't anime-styled). But they still absolutely prefer the Japanese ones. On one hand it's logically hard to explain, on the other hand some people only like Russian literature. As long as the appreciation doesn't turn into being supremacist about the given thing, it can also be a good means of preserving tradition and culture.
