Why do you like those kind of games?

#1 Post by Enerccio » Mon Mar 19, 2007 10:57 am

Well?

My situation:

I started playing Vn only for Hentai. YEs, hentai. But since i played couple of them i started to know, that main strenght of these games (or at least good ones) is story. Therefore i love these games... because i love good stories :D

haha same for me. I started playing mindless hentai adventure games that you can easily get through less than legal means. Then I thought whoa! some of them actually a good story... or concept at least. Like the illusionary mansion that only opens its doors for people who are "lost" in Nocturnal Illusions. Of course, I also heard people talking about these super-awesome japanese only games like Kanon, Clannad, Fate/Stay Night and started collecting them through ahem... more of the same, for future use. In case, I learn enough japanese to enjoy them in the near future or they get translated.

Then I saw narcissu and the only reason that I played it and all the other altogether games rather than OELVN was because of the way insani presented it on their webpage which somehow appealed to me more than the way stuff was presented on the renai archives.

Hehe my thoughts are kinda disorganized but to sum it up, right now I like Visual Novels because I believe that a VN is arguably the most powerful way to tell a story even more than a comic book, book, or movie. It has the book/comic book's advantage of letting each individual reader see the action at his own pace and in his own way, the movie's advantage of utilizing sound effects and to a certain extent, even animation and all without losing the book's ability to leave certain things to the reader's imagination.
How do you make your games? I see. Thank you for the prompt replies, but it is my considered opinion that you're doing it wrong inefficiently because I am a perfushenal professional. Do it my way this way and we can all ascend VN Nirvana together while allowing me to stroke my ego you will improve much faster. Also, please don't forget to thank me for this constructive critique or I will cry and bore you to death respond appropriately with a tl;dr rant discourse of epic adequately lengthy proportions. - Sarcasm Veiled in Euphemism: Secrets of Forum Civility by lordcloudx (Coming soon to an online ebook near you.)

OMG I made a similar all-encompassing statement not too long ago, in these very forums! I went on to say it is the most efficient storytelling medium. Used well, with fewer megabytes than an average game, with fewer drawings than an average comic, with fewer words than an average book, fewer talent than that required for a radio drama or music album, and way way fewer special effects budget than an average movie, one can still come up with an effective means to engage an audience.

I think lordcloudx is familiar with kinetic novels as the 'new content delivery' mentioned somewhere (associated with some announcement regarding Polyphonica or something else)

The problem is that few people in the world realize that (even few among the anime circles), and being well-balanced in execution takes a lot of skill and patience (since most people do most things by themselves and are less likely to delegate compared to the more expensive mediums mentioned above)

"Games are played because of the girls. Yes, only in game will you see girls who follows your every desire!" - Yamazaki of NHK

I have admitted on some part of Yamazaki's quote, since that what draws me most is due to my affection for some character, be it their mishap or their success. I will not have bought ONE if not for Rumi-tan. :P

I remember that statement you made, but nope, I'm not familiar with that stuff regarding Polyphonica. I wrote that down, because honestly that's how I've always seen visual novels ever since I started making them. I was a feature editor before, so I'm used to effectively prettifying stuff with words to say a very simple thing.

"Relying on artistic interpretation to make it more than it actually is!" as someone else put it. ( gehehe anonymous does not forget.)
