Chatrooms for lemmasoft

#1 Post by yvanc » Fri Mar 23, 2007 8:27 am

Hello, does lemmasoft have any chatrooms? Just a place to hang around with your fellow visual novel enthusiasts ^_^

Not (yet?)

I dunno...the discussions tend to be very informative...so it's good that records are kept.

For example, the ratio of multiple paragraph responses compared to one-liners (perfect for irc) tend to be ridiculous here.

Mmm... I tend to agree, more or less. I mean - it can be cool to sit around and chat with likeminded people, but equally I find that it's easy to forget yourself and not make notes if you are getting somewhere, and not only that but IRC is also totally distracting and I'd get less project work done... ;-)

I guess it could be useful for quick-help things, but... I don't know, the forums tend to be pretty quick in response to most help requests anyway?

Then again, considering how scattered we are globally, does it make much sense to use synchronous communications like chatrooms?

Well, considering how fast topics usually get replies, I don't think that's too much of an issue.

I don't think it's a bad idea at all, but I don't think it's really needed. And it might become a bit of a distraction (luckily, nanoreno is nearing its end, so a little distraction won't be too devastating to anybody).

I dunna know...
Personally, I really like having IRC rooms for community people to gather and talk. It doesn't necessarily have to be support or project talk, but just general conversation is nice too. Its really a community building thingy as people get to bond with other community members a bit better when they have a more "instantaneous" conversation with another.

In the case of VisualNews, most of us hang out at #NNL on irc.zirc.org and we have a good time while being there. Not necessarily working on translations, but everyone just hanging out and having some fun brought together by a common interest and community.

Plus it works in a great pinch when you need to quickly get a hold of someone (who normally lurks in the channel) to have a rapid discussion on a topic as DaFool and I learned =P.

Yeah, but that's good for the two people who had the conversation and perhaps anyone else in the channel at the same time, but not so good for random people who are looking around on the web six weeks later for an answer to their similar question...

But yeah. I like having IRC channels to sit and chat about random stuff on, but I also find I don't get any work done when I do... ;-)

I'm kind of mixed on this...on one hand, it would be a good idea just because we share a common interest...but on the other hand, Dizzy has it nailed. We are VERY spread out, and what would be *normal* for someone from the UK would be odd for someone from the US, and what's odd for someone from the UK would be normal for those in the Phillipines...and we seem to do a good job in responding within 24 hours anyway...so I'm not sure a chatroom would be all that helpful.

Works fine for us in #nnl o.O
We've got people from the US, Britian, Japan, Austrialia, and people have funky sleeping schedules in a lot of cases anyways. It's more of a just drop in and see whose awake and talking kind of thing.
