Yo people with glasses say "aye"!

#1 Post by thedarkdefender »

So if you're wearing glasses say aye!
Me: Aye!
If you're not wearing glasses, it's okay. I'm not forbidding you or anything. ^^v

Let's discuss about glasses. Wow what a weird topic.
Anything about it. It can be how it changed your life(did it?), why do you wear one today, etc.

I'm going to put a 1-week limit on this thread, since if I don't, going on together.

And I'll also point out that I've been getting into doing my own optometry, by interpolating prescriptions. I wear glasses for reading, but they're a bit strong for computer use, which is what I use them for 90% of the time. I ordered a new pair with a reduced prescription, about halfway between what I use for computer and distance use - they should arrive today, so we'll see if they're any good in practice.

I have new glasses on order. I hope they help, I'm having eyestrain headaches.

I am hardcore glasses wearer. I've been in glasses since I was a toddler. The pictures are pretty cute. Certainly better than my baby pictures, where I'm ludicrously cross-eyed. Yeah, not hard for my parents to figure out something was wrong there.

I'm not blind without them, I'm just farsighted and I have poor alignment (correpondingly, terrible depth perception).

They say that spending a lot of time indoors as a kid makes you need glasses, and I read a LOT, so I needed glasses by age 10. I'm nearsighted - I can't see many things far away without my glasses, although I can still navigate well enough.

I got glasses at 12-13, and the doc said I should have used them since 6, since I have a somewhat lazy eye >>; (if I cover my left eye, I see pretty much the same, lol)
I can live without them, but my eyes get tired easily and I'm rather nearsighted.

The first time I got classes I was like "ohhh, things looks like... in 3D now!!! *____*" x'D

I too got my glasses at the age of 13. I really needed them as it was affecting my grade, because of not being able to properly read to blackboard etc.
I remember how everything looked the first time I wore them. It was like discovering High Definition. I gawked at everything, putting my glasses off and on to compare. ^^ Those first pair was kind of ugly though, it didn't fit my face at all. Fortunately I got a better one now.
I wore my glasses only in class until two years ago. I can live without them as long as I don't have to read anything from afar, but by putting them on the world goes open. It's a lot easier to read people's faces and to look them clearly in the eye. Thus it ended up making me better at socialising.
I have tried lenses too, but I like glasses a lot more. At least I don't have to poke my eyes everyday!

I don't because I got lasar eye surgery (ノ´ヮ´)ノ*:・゚✧
Before that I wore them since I was 6 (stopped when I was 22) and I went through 6-7 pairs I think.
My Year 1 teacher pointed out to my parents that I might need glasses because I was having to stand right in front of the black board to see it. And my parents used to just tell me to not stand in front of the TV XD I did mind wearing them when I was younger, but I got over that once I got to the point I couldn't walk around without them on. It's nice having peripheral vision again, though I still get this vague feeling that I should be wearing them, even though I can see just fine.

I have a pair of glasses because my left eye is nearsighted, but I don't like wearing them for too long. I've gotten far too used to seeing imperfectly, and the level of detail I can see with glasses on makes my head hurt a little. Plus, I don't want to end up depending too much on them if I can help it.

I don't exactly have the best depth perception though, although the only problem I've ever had was embarrassingly crashing into things when I wasn't paying close attention as to how far they were. If I'm focused, I can figure it out just fine.

Technically, I started wearing glasses since I was 12, but I never really found it that comfortable for some odd reason and when I entered High School, I started hating my look, so I switched to contact lenses at 14. But then I ended up losing or accidentally tearing them lots of times so my father had me wearing glasses again at age 17. I rarely wear them now though. I mostly use it for reading books, computer usage and whenever I am seated at the back of the classroom.

I've worn glasses since I was six. I'm nearsighted, so they first noticed because I was squinting at the blackboard in school. I've worn contact lenses before, but didn't like the hassle of dealing with putting them in and taking them out everyday, and all the soaking, etc. required. Besides, I don't "look right" to myself if I'm not wearing glasses.

My glasses have never really been a problem, except when I was in the military. They made me take all my photos without them (since "eyeglasses make you look weak" or at least "flawed" and Marines are supposed to be perfect). And of course I had to learn how to fight WITHOUT my glasses, since, lets be honest, losing your glasses would be one of the FIRST things to happen in a fight. But I think it made me a better fighter, since I may as well have been wearing a blindfold, and still learned how to pass all my trials, tests, and sparring matches just fine. One of my sergeants was surprised to find I slept with my glasses on, and thought that was weird. I told him it was because if someone crept up on me in the night or something happened, I wanted immediate good vision. (I don't sleep with my glasses on outside of war zones. )

I don't think I'll ever get my eyes corrected - though maybe someday in the future I might go for getting some artificial lenses implanted in my cornea. But I'm really super not into the idea of having my cornea shaved or shaped.

Aye! :) I've worn glasses since I was nine. I don't wear them that much nowadays though, since I learned how to use contacts when I was 12. I only wear them at home, or when I'm too lazy to wear contacts to school. Oh, and when I get allergies.

Woah, I admire LateWhiteRabbit. :3 That's so... amazing. I remember, when I was a kid, I told my mama to put glasses on me while I was sleeping... for the simple reason that I wanted to know what it was like to wake up to a brighter, clearer world. :3 Up to now, I still haven't gotten my wish because my mom refused. Bummer. But who knows... maybe... someday. :)

I got glasses in.... early 2nd grade? My entire family is stuck with glasses or contacts, NONE of us have good sight and I doubt any future offspring of the family have a chance of good eyesight either. I got my first contacts in senior year, but hated the struggle of putting them in in the morning (I wake up late). Last August I got these kind you can keep in for a month and even sleep in them, you just use a lot of eye drops, like every morning especially, but that's not so bad. I'm wearing my glasses right now and I wonder if my already-terrible eyes got worse? My contacts still see really clearly, but my glasses get a bit blurry after a certain distance. Maybe they've always been like that, and I'm just used to seeing contact-clear that I didn't realize before?

Ask your eye doctor about long-term contacts if you want this--seriously, waking up actually able to see things is so incredible. ...Though sometimes it's wake up => eyedrops => amazing

Your eyes have to adjust to new glasses - each pair of glasses has certain quirks, like maybe being slightly tilted, or one lens being closer to one eye than the other. You've experienced this whenever you get a new pair of glasses, right? It takes a few days for them to feel natural and your eyes to relax. When you go without them for a month, then put them back on, your eyes have to readjust all over again. Your eye muscles actually find a comfortable amount of tension to put on your eyes to make things focus with the least amount of effort. That amount of tension will change with a new pair of glasses or contacts, or switching back to one from another after an extended time.

I had a friend who only started wearing glasses as an adult. His optometrist told him he was supposed to wear them all the time, but he didn't, because they "felt weird and wrong", and made him constantly want to blink. I asked him how often he wore them, and he told me he would try them for a day, then go without them for a week and try again. We were working crunch time at the studio, (imagine, an artist doing art that needs glasses and isn't wearing them!) so I made him wear them for a full week. No surprise, he told me suddenly the glasses were working!

You'll likely have to choose between always wearing the month long contacts or wearing glasses. Or learn to put up with uncomfortable adjust periods between the two.

I got mine about 2 years ago. I was supposed to wear one about 3 years ago, but I was in denial and I didn't want to wear glasses.
Well, today I take back those words, and I absolutely cannot live without my glasses.

Nay because we're all rebels and we don't really like you.

I'm near-sighted, and I've worn glasses most of my life. I once tried rigid gas permeable (RGP) contact lenses, which are smaller and harder than conventional soft contact lenses. I never liked soft lenses because as a hardcore glasses wearer, they just don't match in vision quality, assuming my glasses aren't dirty. It takes about a week for your eyes to get used to RGP lenses; some people might not even be able to tolerate them. However, RGP lenses are of much higher quality and should last at least a year or more if your eye prescription doesn't change. At $100+ per pair, they are still cheaper than purchasing monthly disposable soft contact lenses. (though it'd suck if you lost a pair... also risky if worn in contact sports *not a pun*) I read somewhere that it's a business practice to never openly recommend these lenses.

Someday I shall get an awesome eye patch update my wardrobe with fashionability, and equip those lenses. I don't even remember the last time I got clothes other than socks! ~_~

Yes, eye patch for the win:
