Cross Channel.
This game has been since my standard for other VNs. Only few have come close to its strong story-telling power.

That would be either Knights of Xentar (3, if I recall correctly, and it was the the censored version), which is probably not really a 100% VN, or then Seasons of the Sakura.

You know, I think Ori, Ochi, Onoe was the one for me. I'd played stat-builder dating sims before, but that was the first real VN, the one that really got me interested in the genre.

I got to the Ren'ai archives from Wikipedia- and I have to say that I don't like some of their decisions recently. Case in point- claiming that the article on ren'ai "contradicts" the article on dating sims and trying to merge the two.

It's another topic really, but I don't think ren'ai is the same as dating sim.

Come to think of it, I'm not sure what my first one was... I played Tokimeki Memorial, I think... (not that I understood most of it :P ) I think I was more interested by reading about the genre on the Megatokyo forums. And I read some FAQs and stuff. I think.

(and Ever17 = 8) )

I played Tokimeki Memorial on SNES for like 5 min. The first VN game I really really played was Gakuen Heaven.

Snow Drop. Okay, so it is not actually the best game, but being the first game, it is one of my important collection. :P

In thinking about this....I think the first VN-BASED game was probably Cobra Mission - although part of it wasn't VN at all....I think the first TRUE VN I played was Season of the Sakura.

Haha that was my second game, it was almost impossible to get the good end. It wasn't a very good game imo.

My first game was Season of Sakura, a game that I still go back and play now. I still havn't managed to get the Rei alike.

Third game was True Love, and I have been looking for games in the Vein of Season of Sakura and True Love ever since ( the whole selecting what to do in what part of the day was awsome) Shame it was a bit too easy, and on the other hand that some of the random bits were a pain to get.
