Which one is cooler? WW2 or present day weapons?

If i were to be asked , i choose the present weapons, because we are now in a modern generation and speaking of modernity , we have now the ability to create more powerful and a good quality weapons unlike the weapons back then..

I must say modern day. The diversity and setting gives numerous possibilities for a story. Whilst using WW2 weapon, its more likely that the story will be based on or related to something that happened during that time.

The story goes like this:
In the future, alien forced humanity to live deep under the earth, in impenetrable undergound bunker. But the alien keeps pushing in and determined to wipe each and every human off surface of Earth... or under it.

WWII mixed with steampunk.
...and lasers. MUST have lasers.

Or go all the way with deathrays. I love me some Tesla!
