Looking for under-appreciated, good works.

#1 Post by Applegate » Sat Jan 11, 2014 12:42 pm

A simple glance at the Completed Games forum shows that there is a great deal of works which just don't receive as many comments as others. There can be various reasons for this: Bad artwork, terrible presentation, hackjob writing, bad pornography... sometimes a combination of these, other times just one or the other.

I'm specifically interested in the people who have written a Visual Novel that just hasn't gotten as much attention as they think it should have.

Did you write a great Visual Novel, but are you just not getting that much attention? Has your feedback been wholly one-sided? Do you think your work's plot is actually pretty good?

If so, please let me know! I've been dying to have a good read, and I want to quit looking only to books for that. And if I do that, I figure I might as well look at some under-appreciated works, since reading high-profile popular works is just too mainstream conformist for me. I'm sure there's some good works that get buried because their art isn't so good, or the poster wrote a bad post, or it doesn't hit a niche here.

Please do mind a few things.

- I'm not interested in dating simulators. So if your VN involves stat-raising on a weekly schedule, I'll pass. Exception: If your game is Cherry Tree High Comedy Club, gimme.
- I'm uncomfortable with BxB and GxG content. I'm very sorry about that.
- If you have more than 2 pages of comments, you're too mainstream for me. Sorry! (But if your writing is so good it will knock me out of my chair all the way to China, by all means. I've always wanted to visit China.)
- Completed works only. If you did not post it in the completed games section, it's not complete.
- Only post your own work. Don't post others' works.

Thanks.

What type of stories do you like?
I won't recommend that you read any of my stuff. If the descriptions and artwork in the announcement posts didn't interest you, you'd be wasting your time downloading and reading.
All of my VNs are at http://wolflore.net NOTE: Downloads are now working.
Some are at http://www.the-new-lagoon.com. NSFW
Poorly done hand-drawn art is still poorly done art. Be a Poser (or better yet, use DAZ Studio 3D) - dare to be different.

I typically don't read many announcement posts. I create more than I read, and what I read is mostly something my friends happen to be talking about.

I like all manners of stories, but chiefly favour slice-of-life and modern day fantasy. Aside from horror and date sims, there's very little I wouldn't write. Post-modern is fine by me, so long as you don't try too hard to be pretentious deep. I get enough of that when I write personally.

All I can say is look for posts that are over a week old and have no comments. If the artwork and description interests you, go for it. I hope you find some hidden gems.

Have you played donmai's Toire no Hanako? http://lemmasoft.renai.us/forums/viewto ... 45&t=19627
Does having more than 2 pages of comments always mean a game is too mainstream? xD
