I honestly didn't want to even poke this hornets' nest of a thread with a stick but I can't stand watching this community repeat itself over and over again to deaf ears. Omniknight, if you feel that you must enact this sort of system, do it on your own site instead of directly on these forums. When you own a corner of the internet, it's your rules and you can do whatever you want. The forumgoers have already spoken, and as a community they don't accept your idea. Do your reviews elsewhere.

As for everyone else (and forgive me if I'm stepping out of bounds here), if you want to spare yourselves the headache then let this thread die down. Chances are you've already stated your position on the matter.

I wouldn't worry too much. The response has been so overwhelming negative that if he decides to ignore everyone and go ahead with a rating system, I doubt anyone will pay attention to the results, because it would mean he doesn't listen to or care about the community, and because only one person seems to think it's a good idea.

Agreed, of course. A relevant information to those who may feel like overreacting: although he apparently has now edited his profile to hide his age, it's important to remember: what was previously written there is that Omniknight is only 15 years old.

Just so you know better how to talk to him (BTW he's my younger son's age).

I think this thread is getting derailed at this point. So I'm going to sum up some of people's points here and maybe add some of my own:

• Quality is highly subjective. What one person may find as a Citizen Kane Vertigo another may find as a Plan 9.
  This is a community that caters to developers, not players. We want everyone to support each other.
  A Ranking and Review system, or any system similar it, just wouldn't work for this site, period. It turns some into high and mighty elitists and leaves others open to trolls.

...And that's basically what I get from this thread. Now, there's nothing wrong with wanting quality. Even encouraging it. But you have to understand that most people here make VNs because its fun, and because they like it, and there's no standard for fun.

I think this thread's been discussed to its end, and beyond. I'm now locking it. If anyone wants to set up a ranking system, or a new reviewing initiative, or anything, don't let others discourage you. Do your own thing, if you believe in it. But also don't try pushing your ideas on people obviously not interested.
