...at least they could have kept riceGnat...
for some insane reason, I feel there are countless better artists on deviantART willing to work for FREE.
...but then, Jeremy's condescending personality makes a lot of people dislike him... idk really. As much as I want the KS to succeed, I don't think it will.

Re: Dischan Dysfunctional Systems Kickstarter
I like Jeremy.
And cause it costs money to hire RiceGnat.
Maybe they felt it was time for a change?
I don't know, I don't mind the art change per say, sure, I loved Doomfest's art, but we can all learnt to appreciate a different artist.
EDIT: and besides, getting a free artist doesn't feel right to some people. For example, if I wanted to do a longer project, I would defiantly pay for the art rather than ask for free art simply because it doesn't feel like this person is depending on me as much to get the story done. It means they can do the story at their pace and not worry about the artist asking for it as they are being paid for certain things and I'm rambling but oh well.

Re: Dischan Dysfunctional Systems Kickstarter
After doing some highly speculative data extrapolation, I think this one will be a close one. A successful campaign is definitely possible, but not without a lot of people's help.
My armchair prediction is that Dysfunctional Systems will follow the sequel pattern, earning 40% of its revenue in the first 4 days. It will then make 30% of its earnings during days 5-26, then 30% of earnings on days 27-30. Based on this, I think the first $20k will happen pretty soon and rather easily, then the revenue will trickle in from $20k-$37k from around days 5-26. Days 27-30 will be absolutely pivotal and depending on how it goes, it could raise between $50k-$100k based on what happens on just those three days.
The $49k goal may not have been wise though. People pretty much contribute regardless of the goal, so it's best to be conservative just so that you get the money and good press, preferably early.

Re: Dischan Dysfunctional Systems Kickstarter
I thought you would have been a bit more respectful of Dischan members, seeing as you were planning to make money off their work (bending rules using kickstarter).Omniknight wrote:...at least they could have kept riceGnat...

Plus the low jab about Jeremy's personality? How many people have left or been booted from your own project?
Wishing them the best of luck with funding.
And regarding the new artist, they certainly aren't bad at all. Comparing them to Doomfest is a bit rough. His art is jaw-dropping, and extremely difficult to emulate well.

The #renpy IRC channel is a great place to chat with other devs. Due to the nature of IRC and timezone differences, people probably won't reply right away.

Can someone link the demo?
I think the art they're showcasing has been good in any case. At least, the newest pieces of art. I'm most curious if they improved on writing though.

Re: Dischan Dysfunctional Systems Kickstarter
Dischan does not expressly disallow fan works, as long as it's not commercial. Don't quote me on that though, as I'm paraphrasing.
Omni plans to open a kickstarter for a fan work based on Dischan's work. Kickstarter is a source of income.

Re: Dischan Dysfunctional Systems Kickstarter
I have the first episode, and that is why I wanted a sample of writing. The forum rules indicate you must have a demo for a Kickstarter to link to. I assumed that was the case here, but I can't find it, so I guess there isn't one.Rinima wrote:I don't think there is a demo.Applegate wrote:Can someone link the demo?

Ahhh, sorry, I didn't realise that's what you meant. I guess they are just using the first episode as a justification to not have the demo in this case.Applegate wrote:I have the first episode, and that is why I wanted a sample of writing. Re: Dischan Dysfunctional Systems Kickstarter
I'm just going to use my forum admin powers to rule that Episode 1 serves as a demo of Episodes 2 and 3.
The purpose of the rule is to forbid kickstarters from people who have no idea how to create a commercial visual novel, and to let us evaluate the prior work. I think that Dischan has proved they know what this entails, and hence we don't need to be legalistic about the rule.

I didn't catch it yesterday, but they posted new style concepts. It's a big improvement over the first sprites in my opinion.

Oh, the new ones *are* an improvement! I actually like them, myself.
And 15+k already? That's great!
