How did you find and form your VN team?

#1 Post by Beckers » Thu Mar 27, 2014 12:12 am

So, I'm not sure if this is the right thread to be posting in, but I always see these great artist/writer/coder teams, and it makes me wonder how they found each other. More than that, too, how did you all come to a consensus on what you should work on (after all, everyone works the best when they're truly passionate about the project)?

Was it all through the recruitment thread? Did you know some people in real life? Some other platform? What's your story :)

For my first project, FI: Interview, I started planning the VN and then when I thought I had it defined enough (which is ironic considering how much it ended up changing) I just quietly recruited people through recruitment threads they posted on Lemma Soft. Later on I also made my own recruitment thread when I needed more help and got some very nice editors. With that project I guess you could say I was in charge so people were generally fine with letting me make most of the ultimate decisions ':>. The team worked out really well but it isn't a super exciting story :'D.

For the other project I'm helping on, Fangirl Anonymous, tsuppi and myself both wanted to help with a Nanoreno project and offered our services. She is an artist/proofreader and I'm a writer/programmer so it seemed like a good fit and we ended up teaming together to make a project :]. The game isn't finished yet so we'll see what happens. Maybe we'll end up recruiting more people along the way. But for now that's all there is to it ^^.
In-Progress:
Floret Bond, XOXO Blood Droplets, Our Life
Released:
A Foretold Affair, My Magical Divorce Bureau, XOXO Droplets, Lake of Voices

I met Ignosco on IRC. He likes eroges and can compose so that ended up being a pretty good arrangement. My hope is that I'll be able to get more people who can do other stuff I can't do after I release something (to show that I can produce more than just vapour)

Bird of same feather flocks together. Sooner or later, if you keep making, you'll find someone who want to work together with you.

In my case, I just draw and draw and draw (and upload them all, of course). Then some good people sent me some mails "Hey, let's work together in this project". And there you go...

Me, I found my writer some years back in RL and we've been talking about making games ever since. He seems to have a lot of potentual, but unless he can get his gear in motion and actually start to write more than just a few sentences every other day, I'm going to have to replace him. As for the rest, well, I don't really have a team, per say. I usually try to commission people for what I cannot complete on my own. It's pricey but it get good results, I think. Just takes a long time to get anywhere, which is fine considdering the speed of my current writer... I would like to get an actual team together, but as it stands, I'm seriously picky when it comes to the art I want, so it might be hard to find an artist that lives up to my demands and is willing to team up with me :-P

My teammate is one of my closest RL friends. We've known each other since high school and we've been planning to make games since then. It's only in the recent years that we've actually tried to make them.

We also have a lot of other friends who are anime fans and/or gamers that have varied talents, and we try to get them to work with us too.
Currently working on Beyond the Veil, our NaNoRenO '14 entry.
