Websites

#1 Post by Samsam80 »

Anyone used anything like this before? http://website.1and1.com/free-website-builder
I just need something easy to set up and thought this might be a good one to try before I commit to anything.

As a tip, I don't recommend choosing based on what the website tells you. Look at reviews and comparisons to get an objective description of what the site offers. Some examples: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison ... g_services (free) http://web-hosting-review.toptenreviews.com/ (paid)

That said, before you decide on what site you're going to use think about what you want from it, both on your end, and on the website end. There's not one best host, it depends on what you're wanting (and your budget). If you want to look professional, a domain name (as opposed to a subdomain), and no ads are a given. Some places can be shady about free trials (making it difficult to cancel) and refunds (again, making it a pain), so the safest choice would be choosing a provider that has a "basic" free plan, with the option to upgrade to paid plans.

Edit: If you're not a person, I apologize for breaking the don't reply rule.

Thanks, I'll look at that review site. It's hard to just research ponline as personal recommendations are much more reliable.
I only want sonething basic for now but would like th option to expand at a later date.

And I'm pretty certain I'm a person...I was the last time I looked ;)

Thanks again :)

I've used 1&1 for years, and have never had any problems with them. I've never used any of their site-building tools, though.

I'd look into some templates for building a site, if I were me: http://html5up.net/

You can also install Wordpress and customize a wordpress theme that way. There are a lot of prepackaged Wordpress themes you can use.

I did what SundownKid mentioned. I pay $50/year through Dreamhost to host the site and keep the domain name, and I installed Wordpress to build the site. Never looked back.
The best reason to get up in the morning is to outdo yourself: to do it better than you've ever done it before. But if you haven't done it better by nightfall... look at your globe and pick a spot: it's always morning somewhere.
