Independence Day celebrations near my home include parades, free concerts, cook-outs, people setting off fireworks near their homes, cities having fireworks displays, and people ringing bells at 2 pm.

Aww, sorry to hear about the lame weather! Although because I live in an insanely hot and sunny place (south carolina), I always really enjoy the rain since it never lasts long and always cools things down a bit.
Mostly, today is just a day for Americans to relax and not work, while hanging out with family and friends!
