Random Question about a particular feature of the forum

#1 Post by Rinima » Tue Aug 04, 2015 7:05 am

Random Question: Why is there a foe button? I can understand the friends button, but why a foe button? Is it just a feature of the site that can't be done away with, or is it there on purpose? The only purpose I can find is that it hides the other users comments, but why not just ignore the other user without the foe button?

Sorry if this is in the wrong place >.<

Lots of message boards have a similar feature. It hides the posts so you don't have to seem that all. Skipping over a post might still result in you reading it. Having the posts hidden means to you don't have to see any of it. It also conveniently gathers the list of names of people you don't want to deal with.
A Close Shave:
*Last Thing Done (Aug 17): Finished coding emotions and camera for 4/10 main labels.
*Currently Doing: Coding of emotions and camera for the labels--On 5/10
*First Next thing to do: Code in all CG and special animation stuff
*Next Next thing to do: Set up film animation
*Other Thing to Do: Do SFX and Score (maybe think about eye blinks?)

This isn't something we decided to add, it's just something that was part of the forum software.

Yeah, a lot of forum features are just part of phpBB. A lot of the unused features (friend/foe lists, bookmarks, drafts, and in some cases PM folders and subscriptions) are just hardwired into the software. I've used PM folders and subscriptions before in other forums, but I don't think I've ever used any of the other stuff listed. In the case of the foe list, the type of people that would be blocked by it are (conveniently) the type of people to be banned or ignored. And I don't think most people like the idea of a forum automatically hiding posts, even if you dislike the person writing them.
Things I've Written:
Sakura (Novel, Self Published, 80,000+ words)
City and Girl (Novel, First Draft, 70,000+ words)
Loka (Novel, Third Draft, 120,000+ words)

A layabout writer and programmer with lots of problems and even more ideas. Hyped for Persona 5.

Some people might be triggered by other people and need the option to hide the posts.

But conveniently, the Foe button is not mandatory. If a person doesn't like the foe button, they don't have to use it. If a person does want to use it, they can.
