Anti-Spam Questions

#1 Post by PyTom »

I'm looking for a few new anti-spam questions for use on the forum. The best anti-spam questions are something someone new to a topic would know, but outsiders would have trouble with. I'd like people's suggestions for new questions I can add.

Please post your suggested questions here. Don't post the answers - if it's not obvious to everyone, we can't use it.

How old is ren'py? (this might be hard though I'm not sure.)
Black bookstore owner. Diverse fiction reviewer. Bestselling romance author. Award-winning fiction editor. Quite possibly a werewolf, ask me during the next full moon.

One of the first games originating in this community was named "... of Lemma".

Which game demonstrating several basic functions of the scripting engine comes with every download of Ren'Py?

when I joined LSF I followed the help of a game and didn't know anything about renpy and visual novels. I suggest adding one of those "I am not a robot" capchas and avoid asking newbies such hard questions.
I'm using one on my website and it's working pretty good on keeping bots out. for those few spammers who don't use the bots they can't spend all of their time on the websites who have active admins around the clock banning them as soon as people report them so I suggest adding community managers from different time zones.

There to difficult. You can't expect newbies to know the answers to them, or even people not familiar with the VN community (for example, I don't use reddit, I didn't know about it until maybe a year ago? And I've been on here 2+ years).

This is a good idea

In my experience, captchas don't work. We get enough traffic that it's worth it to just pay a person to sit there solving captchas. I did come up with a new question, which I _think_ everyone should get:

To advance the text in a visual novel, _____ the left mouse button. (5 letters.) There are 3 valid answers, beginning with c, p, and t.

this type of captcha have nothing to solve I suggest you try it before any other solution.
I had an avalanche of spammers on my wordpress website and I installed some addon with similar technology and it killed all of them without even showing any captchas.
you can read more about it here http://www.wired.com/2014/12/google-one ... recaptcha/ or simply google it.
edit: http://www.google.com/recaptcha/intro/index.html
if those spammers are willing to register manually every time they deserve to be a member for few moment

We used recaptcha for some time before moving to the current system. It works, right up until the point where it makes sense to pay someone to solve the captchas. Then it suddenly stops.

What's the key to skip text?
How do you rollback?

Declare a Character in NVL named "Banana" to the variable "cake"

Make someone called "???" say "You triggered my trap card!" without defining a character called "???"

then up with the questions I guess.
what mouse key we use for rollback in visual novels?
name one other visual novel engine.
what does py represents in Ren'py?
name a game made with renpy. (guess we will need lots of names for this)
what country is the origin of visual novels?
what does E in ELVN stands for?
what color is Eileen's hair in renpy logo?
(I should say again, I couldn't answer some of these questions when I joined the forum)

I couldn't answer any of the questions proposed when I first got here. PyTom's question about what key to press I could have guessed because you can intuit the answer.

Which leads me to the question. If the worry is that spammers will hire someone to answer questions, wouldn't that human also be able to answer any challenge question that would be easy enough for a complete noob to also be able to answer?
A Close Shave:
*Last Thing Done (Aug 17): Finished coding emotions and camera for 4/10 main labels.
*Currently Doing: Coding of emotions and camera for the labels--On 5/10
*First Next thing to do: Code in all CG and special animation stuff
*Next Next thing to do: Set up film animation
*Other Thing to Do: Do SFX and Score (maybe think about eye blinks?)

exactly what I think. and who knows how many real members might get stucked behind these questions and give up on the whole thing? I still think you should leave spammers to spam moderators and forum members when they get though recaptcha.

It's still time spent trying to figure it out. If you hire a human to translate a captcha, then it works because it only takes like 10 seconds each. If you have to google search something, then it starts taking 2-3 minutes.
