Top Gear's race across Japan

#1 Post by mikey » Sun Jul 13, 2008 8:04 pm

Yesterday the crew of Top Gear (a UK car show) held a race across Japan, which makes up the bulk of the episode (episode 11x04). The point was that one of the presenters drove a car and the other two went by train to see who'd be first at a given location near Tokyo.

I'm guessing even if you're not into cars and don't like British humor, you will still enjoy the really beautiful footage (the red GT-R contrasts nicely with the nature) as well as really interesting facts about the Japanese rail network! :P

The segment goes from 16:xx to 34:00 and then picks up from 44:xx until the end.

I saw that today, OH HELLS YEAH! Apparently it was from one end of Japan, (someplace west of Tokyo) to the opposite end. I actually can't remember the place names.

Spoiler alert:
I'm surprised Clarkson beat the bullet train.

I've watched it three times now ^_^.
Anyway, I remember in the first episode of the series where they show a trailer for the whole series to come, they had some shots of the Mitsuoka Orochi and other cars in Japan, so maybe there is going to be another special from Japan at some point in the series.

Agreed. That's why I enjoy shows like Mahokoto - Natsusora so much, despite using stock photographs instead of background paintings.

Japan is frickin beautiful. Most especially clean, safe, high-tech, with light traffic (even in Tokyo).

It's amazing how it's the birthplace of the hikikomori phenomenon. If I lived in Japan I would be touring the countryside all the time.

At least I have an excuse to stay indoors in front of a computer day in day out -- Manila has a high crime rate and the slums are the norm, not the exception.

Pssshhhh... that is NOT traffic. There's still space in between vehicles.

THIS is traffic:
