Satellite Internet.

#1 Post by Doomfest » Tue Sep 09, 2008 8:05 pm

I'm in Suriname. I need satellite internet. I NEED IT. D: Any suggestions would be greatly loved. o_o uploads will be handled by the best DSL connection (which is the best this country gets besides the satellite), which is better than the sat connection at gaming as well. Since I know nothing about satellite internet, I've come to you guys for help, again. :3

Sorry, Doomfest, I also know nothing about satellite internet connection; Since in my country, it is VERY expensive. I think you need to install a big, heavy, expensive, and hard-to-install signal receptor (like tower or something).

Why not googling (or Yahooing) it first to find if there is any decent ISP in Suriname?

Depends if you want a one way or two way link. Now, two way link is way expensive and in some countries you have to register it, because basically it's a huge broadcast device. One way link is cheaper. For example in my country (I think it's comparable to Suriname in terms of developement) 2 way link is more than 2000 US$, while one way link is about 300-500 US$ depends on the company. But first you must find sat-internet providers in your country or neigbouring countries and check with them if your area is covered and if they can provide the service in the first place. I know it sounds weird, but I had troubles with sat-internet because I can 'see' several satellites, but was no provider available to give me the service...

I asked here cause I knew nothing about satellite. The best ISP spreads the internet connection to the entire country from a single repeated fiber optic line from the US. Money is sort of not an object.

Then you should be fine.

Check this out:

There are many providers that operate from USA and provide satellite internet regardless of the location...
