A local Sainsbury supermarket was selling cartons of juice with a price tag that read "Innocent kid's juices". It was 2 cartons for 5 GBP.

The actual name on the carton was "Juice for Innocent Kids" - it's interesting to see how just by switching two words around you end up appealing to two completely different demographics.

Yes, we call the mostly absurd mixing of German (Deutsch) and English: "Denglish". "Schoko Balls" is one example of that.

In the recent years the usage of English in Germany became - IMO - quite annoying, if not irretating. Especially ppl in advertisement seem to feel "English" makes products more "cool", or "global" - even though business is local.

Personally I find it irresponsible to label essential merchandise like food in Germany in English. Kids in school might pick up some English, some might become fluent due to personal interest, but especially older generations (40+) barely speak any English.

Even worse if the English turns out to be absurdly wrong, like Nike: "run easy"


There was a survey if Germans actually undestand English slogans (Claims). The result was considerably devastating:

34% Douglas: "Come in and find out", 54% thought they understood, but only 34% translated it correctly „Komm herein und finde wieder heraus“ (Come in and find your way back out)

33% SAT1 a TV channel used: "Powered by emotion" Which some interpreted/translated as "Kraft durch Freude". They decided to use German again after that.

18% Mitsubishi: "Drive Alive", "Die Fahrt überleben" (to survive the drive)

15% Siemens mobile: "Be inspired", "Bienen-Inspektion" (bee inspection). Remarkable is, that Siemens is a German Company. According to the above linked article they use French slogans in France, Spanish in Spain, but English in Germany o_0;

8% RWE (German(!) electric power and natural gas public utility): "One Group. Multi Utilities", hardly anyone understood this "claim", not even I do.

Usually ppl tend to translate the English with similar sounding words in English or German. Like Good ~> "Gott" (god), "too" ~> "two"... According to a German Newspaper (BILD), Germans seem to like slogans in English, even if they don't understand them. It's referred to as the "Pop music effect", ppl like a song despite they can understand it.

Beck's (beer): "Welcome to the Beck's experience", "Willkommen beim Becks-Experiment" (welcome to Beck's experiment)

For unknown reason I am reading through this threat again and only now got the implication of "kid ' s juices"... o_0 eww.

Did they serouisly spell it with an ' ? Because in Samu-kun's photo it's rather: "Innocent[,] kids juices".

Either way, seriously, Hudzon, what kind of "demographic" is that's supposed to be? *ish dishturbed* o_0;

It has the companies name in that little box logo thingy with the heart. And in case it's too blurry to read, it's "ASS"

"Jam" may mean also "to tighten", so it's quite obvious what they wanted to say but used wrong word anyways - in my opinion it's not good to use word "jam" in terms like those. They corrected it later to the "law", which is already better
