Is anybody on these forums showcasing their game at the convention, or otherwise attending for business reasons?

Not this year, but hopefully in the near future. I attended last year as a guest and was excited to see two full panels dedicated to visual novels on the roster... unfortunately, both were focused entirely on porno-centric Japanese VNs.

Los Angeles.
I normally go as a guest, but things are tumultuous for me right now so it's up in the air.

What do you mean when you say "guest?" The convention invites you as a guest of honor? Or the industry badge? Or something different?

I think they mean that they pay for a ticket and go as an attendee ?

I haven't been to a convention in forever! there is one near me called DragonCon I'm hoping to go to in September, but just to go to and look around. Can't afford a table I think it's like... 1500 USD or something like that?

Scribbles is right, I pay for a ticket to go. Hence "guest" since I am a "guest" at the convention.

In the context of conventions, the term "guest" is usually reserved for people who are invited to the convention and (in most cases) financially compensated for it. Guests usually receive billing of some sort, as they are typically intended to be part of the draw for the convention. If you are paying the convention for the privilege of attending, you're not a guest; you're an attendee.
Necrobarista - serve coffee to the living and the dead
Idol Manager - experience the glamour and dangers of the pop idol industry
Cursed Lands - a mix of high fantasy and gothic horror
