I don't know, offhand. Perhaps there is something wrong with your DNS provider.

The mugen-blocker is working!

Just kidding
I'm thinking the DNS thing makes sense.

There's been a few problems with our secondary DNS. I'll be looking into that when I get a chance.

Very random question : does it also happen if you type the full "http://..." form of the URL? I've seen some DNS being faster when given the beginning, for some reason.

As it goes, the protocol part isn't actually passed to the DNS server for name resolution, so it shouldn't make any difference... unless the browser itself retrieves stuff from its cache differently depending on whether the protocol part is there. (And I expect the forum page is marked as non-cacheable anyway.)

You'll sometimes see a difference between "www.domain.com" and "domain.com", but the protocol part shouldn't ever affect name resolution.

What could be a problem, however, is if the DNS server you're hitting (this will most likely belong to your ISP) has cached the "no result" lookup it got erroneously and has set far too long an expiry on the record... I think it's safe to say that pretty much all the problems I've ever had with DNS at home have been caused by the ISP's DNS servers, one way or another. One thing you could try is swapping the primary and secondary DNS IPs in your connection settings; another might be to look for some third party's free-access servers. As a last resort, you might try going to a site like this and resolving the name to an IP, then putting that IP in your hosts file to override DNS resolution. But this would mean that if the IP of the webserver ever changed you wouldn't be able to access the site again without taking the entry out again.

(As it goes, it seems "lemmasoft.renai.us" is an alias for "yuki.onegeek.org", which has the IP of 72.26.228.83 )

yeah, unless the "www" subdomain on the site is defined as part of the site, you may get a completely different site than you wanted. I had to yell at Kradorex (digibase.ca owner/head admin) about the "www." subdomain on my site redirecting to his server's main site instead of to where it should've been going. protocol shouldn't affect it at all.

I just made a change to the way dns is handled for these forums. Hopefully, this will reduce or eliminate these dns errors.

Nope, renai.us is all PyTom's domain

Maybe "the man" is spying on you  (if that's true, poor man :p )
