Is it acceptable to flip and mirror a character portrait?

#1 Post by Goddiga »

Hello! I was just wondering if flipping a character portrait is acceptable and usual, especially with commercial games.

This is when the character looks like when facing left.

And this is when the character looks like when facing right via flipping/mirroring.

As you can see, when flipped to face right, his originally left hand becomes right. And his space between the hair also change. Does this kind of thing normal for VN game? Or do the players prefer it to be more real? Like drawing a new one with the hanging-down left hand still left when facing right?

Thank you very much!

If possible, I would prefer a new drawing or at least some editing on the sprite to be accurate. The mirror of the hair, the shirt buttons is bothering me. The hand, not so much. Then again, I have seen some commercial VNs does the flip anyway, so depending on the budget and the taste/standard I suppose.
